AI skepticism versus AI optimism is not on a left-right continuum. I am more optimistic, but I am listening to those who are more skeptical because I think there are real ethical concerns. Innovation and technology are aspects of subduing the earth and fulfilling the creation mandate. Yet, we live in a fallen world and we cannot just blindly accept every innovation. There are assumptions built into our new technologies.
What gives me hope--as opposed to the more pessimistic apocalyptic outlooks--is that humans have agency. We get to determine how AI will be incorporated into our future. Ironically, the presence of human pushback and resistance, and skepticism is one data point that tells me that the robots will never take over.
