Governor Sanwo-Olu told us that modern cities shouldn’t have bikes, so he “banned” them and somehow gave us a filthy one.
Now, his deputy is being touted as a man of experience fit to be the next governor. Experience with messing things up?
POV: You’re in East Africa… on a bike for the first time since Lagos’ infamous bike ban in 2020… 😂
There’s a massive adoption of EV Bikes in Kenya and Rwanda. Spiro in particular seem to dominate the market, ampersand is also doing quite well in Kigali.
Bikes are the fastest and cheapest way to move around in Nairobi and Kigali
In Nairobi, you can easily order a bike ride on bolt or uber but in Kigali it’s best to flag them.
Move and Yego do not prioritize these options. Move and Yego are the most popular ride hailing apps and Bolt and Uber are not available.
It’s not available on Move but you can find on Yego but it takes too long so it’s better to flag them on the road.
Outside of Kigali, the adoption of EV bikes is slower.
I haven’t really explored outside of Nairobi so I’m not sure what it looks like but I’m assuming it will be the same.
