#SetTheDate did not fade. It stayed.
In mid-September it reached the top trends in Venezuela. On September 19, as a campaign pushed “MaríaCorinaDesechada,” users in the country reported that tag slipping and
#SetTheDate still climbing. Venezuelans drove it. So did Marshall Billingslea
@M_S_Billingslea and allies in Washington: a date for free elections.
It is still up on October 3. Not because people are celebrating on the streets. Because there is no calendar. This week the street protested blackouts of 10 to 18 hours in Aragua, Carabobo, Cojedes, Lara, Zulia, Táchira and Falcón. On October 1 the Venezuelan Observatory of Social Conflict logged 11 protests in nine states. Pensioners stood in Parque Carabobo over pensions of 130 bolivars. Leaders asked the CNE for a date.
2025: 160 demonstrations. 2026 so far: nearly 4,200.
Oil may be leaving. The date is not.
#SetTheDate is not a slogan. It is the condition the street already set: services, income, and an election.
Set it.
