Here's how🧵:
1. You deposit 1 BTC. Protocol borrows equivalent in stables against it.
2. Both go into a Curve pool at 2x size. This would normally mean 2x the impermanent loss, but at 50% loan-to-value ratio, the math works out to linear tracking of BTC price.
Why: The borrowed capital creates a natural hedge. When BTC rises, your collateral appreciates while debt stays constant. The position rebalances automatically to maintain safe LTV.
Historical returns (backtested 2019-2024):
Bull markets: 20-28% APR
Bear markets: 9-12% APR
Average: ~15% APR
These aren't governance token emissions. It's trading fees from actual Curve volume, which runs $50-200M daily.
Risks
- Liquidation if BTC drops ~50% before rebalancing
- Smart contract risk (though audited multiple times)
- Lower yields if trading volume decreases
What makes this interesting, it's the first mechanism that actually eliminates IL rather than compensating for it with token emissions. The innovation isn't the technology, it's realizing that leveraged LP positions at specific ratios create perfect hedges.
