Peggy Shippen is one of the few people who ever fooled George Washington to his face. All while helping pull off the worst treason in American history. She was a celebrated Philadelphia beauty from a Loyalist family. During the British occupation of the city, her home drew British officers, among them a charming major named John André. At eighteen she married Benedict Arnold, the American general then governing Philadelphia. Soon after, Arnold began secretly plotting to hand West Point to the British. The go-between for the coded letters was André, Peggy's old acquaintance. Peggy helped move the correspondence along. The plan was to surrender the fort, and possibly Washington himself. The plan collapsed when André was caught carrying the incriminating papers. Arnold ran. Peggy stayed and performed. She raved and cried until Washington, Hamilton and the officers with them were convinced she was an innocent victim. Her role stayed buried for more than a century. It was later discovered that The British Crown had quietly granted her a pension for services it called "very meritorious." He never made it up the stairs. According to charging documents, he fled the scene and showed up at a hospital... with dog bite wounds. Maria ended up with SIX STAPLES in her head, but thankfully her children slept through the whole thing. "This is the closest I've ever been to de*th," Maria said. "I'm grateful she was there... I don't think I'd be here without her. I think I'll be laying over there on the floor." The man is now charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, and there is an active warrant out for him. Maria is healing. Her kids are safe. RIP. On his final shift before retirement, K9 Kylo was murdered while protecting the community he had served for six years. K9 Kylo was murdered when he was shot and killed while attempting to apprehend a homicide suspect in the area of Southeast 97th Avenue and Southeast Oak Street in Portland. Around 1:45 p.m., the U.S. Marshals Service Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force, working with the Portland Police Bureau and Gresham Police Department, attempted to arrest a man wanted for murder. While trying to apprehend the man, gunfire was exchanged, and K9 Kylo was struck. K9 Kylo was transported to an emergency veterinary facility, where he succumbed to his wound. The violent offender was pronounced dead at the scene. Portland Police described Kylo as “happy, quirky, goofy.” He was known for howling along with the sirens on calls, and off duty he loved exploring the forest and playing with his little brother Apollo, a miniature dachshund. 🖤🙏💙🙏🖤

246 years ago today, three patriots SAVED the Revolutionary cause by stopping Benedict Arnold's betrayal. On this day, 246 years ago, Major John Andre was captured in Tarrytown, New York. Arnold, angry after being passed over for promotions, struggling personally and professionally, decided to betray the Cause. He would give up West Point to the British -- and with that, effectively destroy the Patriots military campaign in NY and possibly change the course of the war for the worse. Arnold enlisted Andre to carry his plans down to the British on horseback. Just 20 miles from the British lines, Andre stumbled upon three local militiamen, John Paulding, David Williams, and Isaac Van Wart. Paulding was wearing a Hessian coat, and so Andre revealed he was a British soldier, thinking he was amongst friends. The trio informed him they were actually patriots. Andre tried to recant his claim, but the militiamen were skeptical. They searched Andre and were about to let him go when they decided to ask him to remove his shoes for one last check. Andre took his shoes off and out fell the plans to betray the Cause. Andre was arrested, and later hanged across the river. Williams, Paulding, and Van Wart are American heroes whose names are often forgotten but if not for them, we could have very well lost the war.
