Lanterns Wasn’t Gunn’s Idea: It Was HBO’s Note All Along Turns out James Gunn’s big “True Detective with power rings” pitch for Lanterns wasn’t actually his idea. 🥳 It was HBO’s note YEARS before Gunn took over DC. Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim had already written eight scripts for a space-set Green Lantern series when HBO Max kept pushing them to make it more like True Detective. They refused. Then Gunn arrived and announced basically the exact same concept as part of his DCU. Would love to see Snyder and Terrio discuss all the references to philosophy, history, politics, & literature in BvS. So much intelligent interesting stuff in that movie, but it’s completely wasted on Disney adult critics and Batman/Superman purists.
