Been awhile since I’ve been on here. New Org and my son Cooper has grown up. He’s now a soph and taller than me. Kept him out of showcases and PG events to just go and train. Pulled him out of last semester of 8th grade to train in the DR and travel our Org catching our pitchers.

Change the catchers thought process. Not a fan of the term “Soft Hands”. Coaches told me that all the time. Soft hands creates weakness within the catch and allows the ball to control you. I want “Firm Hands” representing strength into the catch. The pocket catches the ball and hands facilitate it.

Cooper w/ set up versatility. One piece move, pocket forward working beneath the ball w/ speed into the catch. We talk a lot about the shoulder being the timing and the elbow is the gas pedal. Together they drive the reception.

Cooper top of zone receiving w/ a dunk technique. Posture at times becomes the pre pitch to set your eyes at the top of zone and alleviate setting up too early and having a tell.

Elite braking systems allow you to maintain speed longer before you have to stop. With receiving the same thing applies and often catchers slow their speed into the catch early in order to stop at the right point. Why?…Their brakes are below average. Better brakes =‘s more acceleration into the catch w/out slowing down early.
