> Figma image fills require Paper's browser extension connected to a Figma account that can open the source file. Without it the paste succeeds but the images are missing. not quite. you just need to paste and then connect to figma when this dialog shows up. will open the oauth flow and then when you get back in images will start resolving (figma api limits apply)

I’m curious about the reason for this workaround. Is it because of Figmas constraints on file size exports?

I wouldn't consider it a workaround, just a way of copy pasting from figma into paper, figma doesn't give direct access to the image urls so you need to access them through their api when we support importing .fig files it'll change the equation though as it's basically a zip file with everything in it
