I don't recommend blindly adding this to any general-purpose browser. By it requiring very open permissions (editing any site's data and accessing browser history), you are forced into a wide, centralised risk of browser compromise to protect against very specific attacks.

These mainly aren't the faults of llamas, but of the default Chrome extension experience. Extensions can turn malicious.
Some mitigations (some are listed by the llamas): use it on-demand in isolated browser, disable extension auto updates, grab/verify/load it manually.

yeah so I think what's likely happening is not lag between UI server and matching engine or anything--I think it's literal lag in the browser loading the website/rendering things/etc.

I think the SEC was hacked and the fake (#1) image is a mildly convincing modification of the real (#2) image from 2021.
Downloading the real image from X, masking over the quote (with the slightly wrong font), and re-exporting/re-uploading it could've caused the quality loss.
