ALT A page from the Royal Exchequer records, 1530s, with handwritten text noting items purchased and their value. There are small drawings at the top of the page, around the title: A unicorn, a thistle and a rose, symbols of the royal houses of Scotland and England. NRS archivists believe another sketch, showing a woman appearing to pierce her own heart with a blade, is intended to be Roman noblewoman Lucretia, a symbol of virtue.
