Peter is not correct about me in this case.
I have always known that dangers from Earth will also pose dangers to Mars. Obviously so. However, the immense difficulty of traveling to Mars means that there is a much higher likelihood of mitigating risks originating from Earth.
A clear example of major risk reduction would be a deadly pandemic. Since it takes 6 months to reach Mars, there is an automatic 6 month quarantine!
Even traveling at the speed of light, a deadly computer virus or AI attack can potentially be stopped due to Mars being ~4 to ~20 light-minutes from Earth.
This doesn’t mean that a Mars civilization eliminates all risk, but it absolutely greatly reduces the risk of consciousness being extinguished.
Moreover, Mars is a stepping stone to extending consciousness broadly within our solar system and ultimately to millions of stars within our galaxy, which would extend the probable lifespan of consciousness as we know it by many orders of magnitude.
That said, what I personally find most motivating is not the risk reduction aspect of extending life beyond Earth, but rather the inspiring nature of exploration and being out there among the stars!
Perhaps we will meet aliens or find the remains of long-dead civilizations that lasted millions of years …

My biggest tip for Grok Build is to VOICE PROMPT.
ctrl + space then speak.
It is WAY faster than typing.
AND Grok is very good at understanding what you want if you just start speaking in a rambling stream of consciousness that is indistinguishable from verbal diarrhea.

A low birth rate due to extended periods of prosperity and low perceived external danger is the primary reason that Rome and most other powerful civilizations collapsed.
Rome had a very high birth rate when under extreme pressure from Carthage and a low birth rate a few generations after Carthage, their last serious threat, was finally destroyed.
Rome fell because the Romans stopped making Romans.
Elon Musk pointed to the same pattern that appears whenever a civilization gets comfortable: birth rates drop.
Julius Caesar noticed it around 50 BC and explored incentives for a third child. Augustus went further with the Lex Julia and Lex Papia Poppaea, creating the ius trium liberorum, privileges, tax relief, and inheritance advantages for those with three or more children, plus penalties for the childless. The laws failed to reverse the trend.
Will and Ariel Durant’s reading of history shows the cycle repeating: higher births under stress, decline once external threats ease and prosperity rises. Few exceptions.
A society that stays below replacement long enough disappears. Basic arithmetic.

On ne mesure pas encore à quel point l’humanité (et particulièrement l’Occident) est en train de se suicider en silence.
Ce n’est pas un problème de « ressources ».
C’est un problème de logiciel.
Un logiciel de repentance, de décroissance, de peur de l’avenir, de socialisme moralisateur.
Un logiciel qui apprend aux jeunes que construire est suspect, que le travail est une aliénation, que le profit est sale, et que le futur est forcément sombre.
Résultat : plus personne n’a vraiment envie de transmettre la vie.
Pourquoi faire des enfants dans un monde qu’on a déjà décidé de haïr ?
Il faut un hard reset.
Un nouveau projet de civilisation clair :
former des polymathes généralistes,
récompenser la créativité et l’envie de construire des choses dans le réel,
remettre le travail et la création technologique au centre comme un jeu exaltant où on s’impressionne les uns les autres.
Pas le profit pour le profit.
Pas l’apprentissage comme une corvée.
Mais une ode assumée à l’avenir, au positivisme, à l’optimisme constructeur.
Parce que tant qu’on n’aura pas remplacé le logiciel de la mort lente par un logiciel de construction, la courbe démographique ne fera que confirmer ce que Musk dit : la civilisation disparaîtra.
Le 21e siècle appartiendra à ceux qui auront le courage de vouloir encore le futur.
