This is why we need a PoW / BIP-110 hard fork: 1. Stop Bitcoin from becoming data storage 2. Stop centralization 3. There are no other plans for how to fix No. 1 and No. 2 There are three reasons for No. 3: First – the free-rider problem, which is the single most important game-theoretical problem when it comes to freedom and freedom tech (everyone waits for others to fix it). Second – an almost cult-like worship of memes such as “Bitcoin is immutable” and “everything is good for Bitcoin” (the blue pill - a false belief system). Third – those who discuss solutions to No. 1 and 2 are constantly being attacked (bad actors and fearful people resort to power games). Smart people in the space are aware of this. Jeff Booth, a guy I have a lot of respect for, is completely aware of it. But what does he do? He begs hardcore Bitcoiners to stay on the legacy chain and help him and other good people fix Bitcoin. But he has no plan or proposal for how it should be done. Jeff is stuck in No. 3, just like everyone else who talks about the fork. In this game, the practical question for most people is: “Should I sell my coins on one of the two chains after the split?” People will look at No. 3 and many will think: “It might be best to sit on them for a while and see what happens.” You can complain about the fork and smear people for supporting it as much as you want. But in the end, everything boils down to No. 3 and - if you want to be a free rider or not, - if you prefer to have a false belief system, - if you prefer to harass people and - ultimately - what you do with your coins.

A coin that shows it can be mutated so badly as to throw away its entire mining industry will go to zero. Why would miners ever trust that it wouldn’t happen again. Good luck.

Thx. You know - sometimes experience can make you blind. Good luck to you too.

There might be a bit of a confusion about Jeff´s position. IMHO he does a lot for bitcoin and even for solving the free riders problem. I agree completely with @JeffBooth that if you look at #bitcoin as a protocol and not as a coin only, the whole perspective changes. Jeff has 18 companies in his Ego Death fund and he just founded Orangejuice.com to help companies to get on a #bitcoin standard - bitcoin treasury path. If you look at #bitcoin as a protocol and build second and third party payment rails and other products on top, the whole ecosystem changes. We can´t solve the (truly existing) free ride problem by changing the actors, we have to change the incentives within the system. Building products on top of the #bitcoin protocol changes the incentives and the behavior of the people. You pay a fee for 30 US$ for running a FEDI federation and it goes to the devs. A new coin, as Luke and Mechanic want, will inevitably fail as it is centralized from the very beginning. Roughnecks mines and the Luke team is in charge of the hard fork. I would never invest in a newly created, person centered coin. Yes, we have to change a lot: - mining should be possible for everybody - pools have to be decentralized by incentives, Ocean pool was a right step in the right direction - centralized pools are a problem. - running a node must be cheap and simple - Start 9 is a perfect example - #bitcoin as money can only be successful if we build tools to use it as money and the best one is #fedi @jeffbooth is right about staying on the legacy chain, there will be hundreds of attacks on the #bitcoin protocol in the future. #bitcoin can only be successful if the honest and bright people stay here and continue building on top of the #bitcoin protocol as fast as possible. Using #bitcoin as money will change the world. A new coin, even when it has some success will again be under a attack - same game. #bitcoin can´t be created a second time - either this one will succeed or everything fails - and our hopes with it. Let´s fight for #bitcoin

I agree with some of this, but not all. And yes, he contributes concretely to reducing the free rider problem, in more ways than people understand.

Very well put, and its allowed to have different views. Bitcoin maxis should be very concerned with the centralization these days, both in ownership and network. Even Ethereum is more decentralized than Bitcoin.

Your plan doesn't fix No.1 and No.2 either.

What happens after a hard fork? Then there is bitcoin and bip-110 bitcoin? Like bitcoin and bitcoin cash?

Betyr det at bitcoin blir delt i 2 og at vi får lik del av begge? Både om vi hsr dem online på børs og v hardwallet lagring?

the most fascinating part is that you could give people a mathematical proof that they can't achieve 1) and they'd still be pleb slopping. for 2), they've achieved the exact opposite, gg

Neither of those two (BIP110 or a hardfork) meaningfully impact the ability to store data. Ordinals has a PR from months ago that will let it work just fine even on the new shitcoin fork. The chosen algo (BLAKE2b) and header template (Siacoin, the shitcoin Luke is rebuilding your headers to match currently) are not a decentralized paradise, the 5 pools you complain of in Bitcoin include the 3 pools who dominate BLAKE2b-Sia hashrate as well. So the changes you want literally do nothing to stop data and REDUCE decentralization across multiple axes.

Great post. For number 3, - Corechain is like a rotten apple, there is nothing we can do to fix it. We can spraypaint it and slap some fraguence and go on for a while, but it can never be the tool to separate money from state

Legacy BTC have now blatant weaknesses: 1-90% hash from regulated USA & China pools became a cartel, slaying the general's dillema 2-Nodes will be too expensive for plebs 3-Easily retrievable abhorrent and illegal content are a 1000 dollars away from the blockchain by an attacker

>"stop centralisation" Yeah dude, by getting rid of the huge amount of hash (security) and hundreds of thousands of people who work on the protocol and tool in favour of -checks notes- one religious psychopath censor, a fleet of 15 busted ass shitcoin asics, and Mechanic lol

The guy forking this shitcoin and all his followers accuse everyone else of being a pedophile, so playing the victim here and whining about harassment is pretty funny. Oh right, you don't call people pedophiles, you just choose to surround yourself exclusively with people who do.

can you explain how BIP110 would “stop Bitcoin from becoming data storage” given that: 1. spammers had already prepared an alternate data envelope to put jpegs/inscriptions that was 0.4% more costly 2. the current most common form of spam, Runes, is unaffected

Great post. "IF bitcoin stays decentralized and secure [...] " Fiat system will attack bitcoin any way possible." -@JeffBooth They (fiat) are attacking from every angle, mining centralization is another angle. The network has to mutate to stay DECENTRALIZED!

Without extra miner income centralisation becomes a fact, security declines exponentially and Bitcoin's network value can't hold. Medium of exchange? Yes, but with lower security and value. This is something all the BIP-110 folks never talk about. Strange.

I have settled on the idea that BIP-110's failure is a good thing. The next evolution of money can begin and it will be stronger than before. It was inevitable and is a required part of the growth process. It was silly to think bitcoin would be forever.
