This leaked classified intelligence ultimately led to the Las Anod conflict in 2023 between Somalia and Somaliland, leaving 210 civilians dead and approximately 680 civilians wounded. It is worth noting that Ilhan Omar’s father, Nur Said Elmi, was a colonel in the Somalian National Army and personally helped facilitate the genocide of the Somaliland people in the late 1980s, during which some 200,000 civilians were killed. Ilhan Omar appears to have leveraged her position on the Foreign Affairs Committee by leaking classified intelligence in order to perpetuate a blood feud against the people of Somaliland.
