The best things in the Club start with someone bringing their own thing to it. That’s the idea behind Anchor Drops. An ongoing series bringing artists from different cities, scenes and corners of the world into BAYC and giving them room to show us what the Club looks like through their eyes. We want these artists to leave something behind. Their perspective, their style, their community. Each one adds another layer to the Club and another doorway into it for someone who wasn’t here before. That’s how the world around BAYC gets bigger. For our next Anchor Drop, that doorway is in Seoul. Stonrok has spent years building a world and visual language of his own. Now, for five days in Seongsu, that world collides with ours. Been here long enough to know that a lot of what drove @BoredApeYC in 2021 came from the culture and value created by the community members purely taking initiative. I remember being @Swickie’s +1 at the first community-led BAYC irl meetup hosted by @beijingdou , where @NFTBA_ was born over a smoke sesh with @TheeHustleHouse and @seanana, and later met Mr. Community Utility himself @17ikoola on the courts. It was also there Josh Ong and I decided to pitch the founders on supporting a yacht party we wanted to throw for Apes at NFT NYC, which we then watched that Yuga support turn that into the first ApeFest. I watched Swickie work that ApeFest line for 8 hours verifying wallet addresses on a spreadsheet while handing out the very first and very last wristbands to a line that stretched for BLOCKS just to make sure no apes were left behind. And before that, I remember @mfigge making custom BAYC sneaker concepts for holders before eventually blessing the space with @10KTFshop, still imo one of the most community-centric and creative projects with some of the most inspiring story telling that brought this space together like no other. All of this helped establish the club DNA and most of this was before MAYC, Otherside, Kodas, ApeCoin, HVY MTL, etc. Those came later that were rewards for a community that had helped create this cultural phenomenon. But somewhere along the way, it feels like we lost the plot of where value came from got conflated with rewards given. Floor price and volume measure market activity and demand. Airdrops are rewards and incentives. But that demand existed because the culture was strong, people wanted in, and Apes were out here building shit because it brought us together as a community which then created value in the form of opportunities not unlike stonkbrokers. These are GOOD things because it’s creating opportunities regardless and it happened because WE said so. No official collab. No Yuga shill. No permission needed. We believed back then that evolution of BAYC should be to take this club beyond Web3 and by proxy this space. But that isn’t happening if we think only Yuga led initiatives, proper merch drop mechanics, more airdrops, web3 rewards, or party access are what made this the best club in the world. And vice versa for Yuga themselves to assume they can come close to replicating the culture without truly understanding what it means to be an ape. Don’t lose the plot fam. Stay bored 🍌

Bored Apes are still a thing in 2026. Shocking. Cartoon monkey jpegs outlived blockchains, protocols, launchpads, DAOs, and half the founders and KOLs shitting on them. It doesn't quite compete in the magic internet money ponzinomics anymore. Idk maybe that's the point. Yuga never pretended they were going to eat tradfi or trying to become the next hyperliquid. They got moisturized and stayed in their lane: a brand, a club, and a product almost nobody else has the balls or runway to try to attempt. People forget BAYC is a benchmark. Five years later, new collections still pitch themselves as "the next BAYC." It's become the category standard. CryptoPunks made pfps sacred. BAYC created an entire world with IP, merch, events, knockoffs, a token, and a world attached. Every collection since has been adopting parts of that template. Somehow it's still a flex, a team jersey, identity markers. It's also an ambitious multiyear swing at IP ownership and game economy disruptoors after the entire industry declared onchain worlds dead and moved on to perps and memecoins. Almost nobody with real brand gravity is still attempting this. Yuga has the runway and autistic vision to look ridiculous for a few extra years and still be the category leaders. Everyone's nostalgic for peak NFT mania but seems to forget the balance sheet that came from that era. The mint, the token, the froth... peak speculation is what paid for the long haul. BAYC was a financial instrument. God forbid the project cashed checks at the top and invested in something you can't short = a global brand and community. God forbid it converted cyclical attention into longterm equity. God forbid the cartoon monkeys were the smart money. So no, BAYC is not the hottest trade on the board right now. That's ok. It's the thing that's going to survive the board, outlive this cycle and probably the next. Yuga will probably stay liquid longer than the spectators stay mad. The cartoon monkeys became infrastructure for a culture, then a company. then products that will outlast most of the shit being shilled out here. They keep praying for the downfall of Apes. And yet... still a thing in 2026.
