The Doctor of Audiology, Doctor of Physical Therapy, and two Doctor of Education degrees in educational sustainability and language and literacy, UWSP now accounts for 29% of the doctoral degrees offered across the 11 comprehensive institutions. I don't know why these headlines are so surprising. Add a $20M expense to an athletics budget overnight and this is the predictable result. Anyone who's spent time in college athletics knows there isn't a Scrooge McDuck pile of gold sitting around waiting to absorb it.
Louisville athletics expects to run a record deficit of about $30 million in FY27, its fifth negative balance in eight years.
The projected deficit is $18.8 million higher than the department’s $11.2 million deficit in FY26.
