“a wealth of information creates a poverty of attention and a need to allocate that attention efficiently among the overabundance of information sources that might consume it.” Herbert A. Simon #paidattention
AI slop is becoming a real productivity tax. The cost of generating information is approaching zero. The cost of filtering it is not. Still figuring out how to deal with it.

This was my read on AI from the beginning and it proved very true. Whatever hypothetical benefits LLMs have (and they have some), their main use is to waste everyone's time wading through slop. Longer colleague powerpoints. More spam emails. More slop clogging up all the systems.
Lazy work used to mean too little output. Now, with AI, it often means too much and more work for everyone else. @tobi call it "slop grenades." A "Slop Grenade" is when you let AI produce the work and pass it on without adding any value (including checking it). Someone else has to wade through it, catch the mistakes, and clean up the mess. You save time and look productive but someone else pays for it.

We had a billboard on a truck at Unbound this year. Joanna who is an OG in the space RTd one of the pics which said “agencies suck, we suck less” (and you can read her comments below) This was a line I insisted be included (the other was “we’re not sure why Tom Brady is here either”) so if you hate it I take responsibility our copywriter thought it was bad too but I pulled the founder card. As someone who runs an agency why would I even put that up? Because it’s funny. It’s true. A lot of people we meet (and I hired agencies when I was inhouse) think agencies suck. They bring A guns on the sales call and hand it off to someone outta school the min the contract is signed. They’re order takers they don’t think they don’t understand the business they don’t bring ideas to the table they aren’t proactive they don’t have expertise. It’s true a lot of agencies do that. They load up AMs with 50 accounts - how can you have time for deep thinking when you are just barely keep your above water? AI has probably made this worse. I wanted to stir the pot I want to be open and I also believe we should be able to laugh at ourselves. We don’t do that we only work with limited customers hire people with deep experience and since we’re smaller side I stay close to the customer and the team (so that’s why we suck less?) The bigger point - we do marketing for B2B we don’t save lives. We should be able to laugh at ourselves while also saying the quiet parts out loud.
When did the prevailing narrative about agencies become "they all suck"? Is it because they're all using AI... or they sign you up for one thing and then deliver that thing in its most watered-down form... or the sales guy is killing and the team is asleep... or you're measuring them by X metric and they don't even know they're being measured?

Aside from their bizarre views, this crowd as zero self-awareness. Smart, well-adjusted people don't go on television and rant like this.
it's actually insane how terrible AI executives like Alex Karp here are marketing their products. he sounds like a complete lunatic on CNBC right now.

Are we still continuing Beavis and Butthead discourse? Because I haven't seen anyone post the one where Beavis knows a ridiculous amount about lizards.
The hardest Beavis and Butthead ever made me laugh was one where they're watching a music video set in front of the Egyptian pyramids and one of them says, "where the hell is this"
