When nature calls while you're in nature, do you know how to go? Disposing of waste properly is an important part of every outdoor adventure, especially when it comes to human waste. It’s simple but important for keeping our national forests and grasslands clean and enjoyable.
When nature calls graphic explaining steps to take when you have to relieve yourself in nature. Step one move at least 200 feet away from water sources, trails, parking areas, and campsites. Step two choose a sunny site with rich soil free from roots and rocks. Sunlight and soil help waste decompose faster. Step three use a trowel, stick or rock to dig a hole 4-6 inches wide and 6-8 inches deep. Step four when done fill the hole with dirt and leaves, pack tightly. Pack out paper or wipes in a plastic bag.

🍂Fall leaves are pretty, but they can also fuel wildfires. Help protect your home by clearing leaves, branches, and anything that can burn from at least 30 feet around your house. Clean it up and keep it clear this fall to give your home a better chance against wildfire.

Heat stroke can cause death or permanent disability if emergency treatment is not given. Stay cool, stay hydrated, and stay informed!"

National Fire News: September 11, 2026. Yesterday, 74 new fires were reported nationwide, including two new large fires. Firefighters are currently working to contain 58 large fires, with 12,965 firefighters and support personnel assigned to incidents nationwide.
