📍 St. Martinville, Louisiana Louisiana’s sugar cane farmers help feed America — and today, we announced new action to protect their crops and livelihoods. Pasture mealybug is an invasive pest that can damage sugar cane, destroy pastures, and kill plants within weeks. @USDA is confronting it head-on: ➡️ We released a coordinated Action Plan outlining USDA’s response in Louisiana, Texas, Florida, and Georgia. ➡️ We awarded $500,000 to @LSUAgCenter to help researchers detect the pest, control outbreaks, identify resistant sugar cane varieties, and give farmers practical tools to protect their harvests. ➡️Increased funding for the Plant Pest and Disease Program to $90M in the Working Families Tax Cuts Act The award comes through @USDA_NIFA’s Rapid Response to Emerging and Re-emerging Pest and Disease Program, which we created last year to move quickly when new threats emerge. Harvest season is here, and our state leaders are out meeting the farmers and rural communities they serve. 🇺🇸 I joined @usdaRD and @usdaFSA state directors for our monthly call to discuss support coming to producers this fall and investments in domestic fertilizer and beef processing. In August alone, these directors held nearly 1,000 events and met with tens of thousands of farmers and rural Americans across the country. We still have more work to do to rebuild the agricultural economy. But there is encouraging news this harvest: prices for ALL row crops are higher since President Trump took office! AND at their highest harvest-time levels in three years. Thank you to every director putting in the miles and listening to the people we serve.

The result: Biden's USDA issued a salmonella mitigation plan based on a test that didn't work. It STILL does not work today. And yet the Biden USDA based an entire federal rule on this falsehood. @USDAFoodSafety corrects the record today. Gold standard science requires no less. QUICK UPDATE ON RANCHER AGENDA:🇺🇸🐂  President Trump promised to put America’s ranchers first — and just weeks after launching our Ranchers First Initiative, our team and partners across the Trump administration and across the country are working around the clock:  ✅ Helping ranchers rebuild their herds: We are fast-tracking the new BRAND Endorsement, which will give ranchers greater financial protection when they retain heifers for breeding instead of selling them.  ✅ Helping ranchers recover from disasters: New guidance allows ranchers with Grasslands CRP acres to access emergency assistance to rebuild perimeter fences and repair other critical infrastructure after wildfires and natural disasters.  ✅ Opening new markets for local meat: New Mexico has joined a federal-state inspection program that allows qualifying local processors to sell inspected meat within state lines. More states coming soon.   ✅ Expanding local processing: We announced up to $50 million to help states establish or expand their own meat and poultry inspection programs — creating more options for ranchers and reducing reliance on the large processors.  ✅ Protecting working grasslands: More than 983,000 acres will enter Grasslands CRP on October 1, keeping land available for grazing while supporting conservation.  ✅ Expanding grazing opportunities: USDA and DOI have expanded grazing access across almost 5 million acres of federal lands, including by reopening vacant and closed allotments and streamlining grazing regulations. ✅ Ending ESG mandates: We stopped mandatory producer checkoff dollars from funding ESG-related projects. Ranchers’ money should promote their products, not advance costly political agendas.  ✅ Expanding markets for American beef: We’ve delivered 20 new trade deals and frameworks, with more to come! American ranchers gained access to Australia’s beef market for the first time in two decades, and a trade deal secured an additional annual duty-free quota of 13,000 metric tons of American beef in the UK. We promised to cut red tape, expand markets, strengthen independent processing, and give ranchers the tools they need to succeed.  There is much more work to be done, but we are making progress! Making America Healthy Again has never tasted so good! 🍦🇺🇸 This week, @SecRollins and @SecKennedy joined @DairyIDFA, @Graeters, @realbencarson, @PFDairy, dairy farmers, and ice cream lovers to celebrate the industry’s voluntary commitment to remove certified artificial colors from ice cream. Ten manufacturers have already eliminated them from their entire portfolios—15 months ahead of schedule. By the end of 2027, more than 40 processors representing over 90% of the ice cream sold at retail will have done the same. It was especially wonderful to be joined by Sam Schwoeppe, Chair of the Prairie Farms Board and a fourth-generation dairy farmer. Sam and her family milk 120 cows and farm 450 acres in Indiana! Farmers like Sam are at the heart of this work. This is what happens when American agriculture, industry, and government work together: more transparency, more real food, and more markets for the dairy farmers who make it all possible.

We commend @USDA, @TheJusticeDept, and @HHSGov's announcement today of new steps to strengthen Animal Welfare Act enforcement in order to crack down on chronic #AWA violators and ultimately help more animals 👏👏👏 🐶 @SecRollins stated USDA is stepping up oversight of puppy mills, including a new Animal Protection Bureau focused on bad actors and unlicensed breeders, more @OIGUSDA staffing, and continued enforcement against facilities that break the law. ⚖️ @USAttyPirro and @ASGWoodward made it clear that animal welfare enforcement is a DOJ priority and asked the public to report suspected violations. Congress can build on this momentum by passing the bipartisan Better CARE for Animals Act to further strengthen enforcement tools for all animals covered under the AWA and the Puppy Protection Act to improve the standards of care for dogs in federally regulated breeding facilities 🐾🐕 Pets are family members and should be treated as such. We’re glad to see this administration take action to prevent dogs from being mistreated in these inhumane facilities.

MAHA is taking over the ice cream industry. USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins announced that by the end of 2027, more than 90% of ice cream sold at retailers will come from processors that have removed certified artificial colors. “By the end of next year, over 40 ice cream processors representing more than 90% of the ice cream sold at retailers will have removed certified artificial colors.”
