I think 9/11 hit harder today because of the deep shame for where our country is 25 years later.

The grief this year seems heavier. That pre-9/11 world is not only lost forever, it has been replaced with something cruel, more resentful, more calloused. Our leaders have not restored trust at home nor abroad. How little we learn.
