The premier conservative outlet for Idaho news. Dedicated to governmental transparency and human flourishing. Unabashedly Christian. Long Idaho!

An introduction for the many new followers: The Gem State Brief is the brainchild of a local book club called Locus Lectorum (place of books). Founded as an avenue to expand our horizons by fostering good conversation, we quickly became convinced that we needed to convert our convictions into action. The GSB became a newsletter in late spring of '25 and continues on as a weekly curation of noteworthy local content with brief descriptions written by members, alongside long-form content recommendations, books, and the occasional piece of original content. Our current membership, a mix of millennial and Gen Z, is nearly all native Idahoan. Along the way we started experimenting with short form content and identified that Idaho needs a local news source that is independent, focused on human generated content, and represents the traditional Idahoan values of Faith, Family, and Country. One of our members (@FerrinsThoughts) filmed the scuffle at the Charlie Kirk vigil on the Statehouse steps and we've dedicated more time and resources to the nascent endeavor since that footage went viral. The recent completion of our own studio will allow us to expand our content type; look for a mix of short and long form video and audio content focused on Idaho events in 2026. With the legislative session just around the corner and the biannual primaries in May there will be many stories worth highlighting! Finally, please DM us if you have an interesting story to share, we are already working on several under-the-radar news stories and look forward to more in the year ahead.

Keep on living, procreating, and fighting. Never black pill.
Read the signs as you will, but from my perspective the country did not drift far left yet. It was the war. Many said this, whatever, but if a state as liberal as Colorado can still squeeze out a win on basic realities then it isn't done. Chin up.

Best state-wide advocate for the pre-born Idaho has had in a long time.
Thank you, Idaho. I'm still thinking about what you accomplished on Tuesday. For years I've defended our pro-life laws in court. This fall I traveled the state to explain what our laws really say and answer your questions. So many of you wanted the truth after the other side tried to mislead you, and those conversations stayed with me. What I saw this fall was Idaho at its best. Catholics, Evangelicals, Protestants and Latter-Day Saints stood together for life. Families and volunteers gave their evenings and weekends to talk with their neighbors. The Stop Prop 1 coalition never let up, and my friend Chairwoman Dorothy Moon rallied Republicans to get out and vote. More people made this win possible than I could ever name. I’m proud that Idaho chose life, and I'm proud of every one of you who made it possible.

A throwback to simpler times: I recently got a used hot tub for an AirBnB I'm furnishing. Filled it up a few days ago and it leaks. I don't have time to fix it so I call a local spa company, they say they don't service this brand but give me a number to call. I call the number, friendly older guy picks up, doesn't ask for any info other than the address of the property. Tells me he'll be out on Friday. Get a call later that he has a cancelation and can make it out a day earlier. I won't be able to be at the property so I tell him to just open the gate and take a look. He calls me back later in the day, tells me there just were some loose fittings, probably from the move. He says to fill it up with some more water and keep an eye on it. I ask how to pay and he says he'll get back to me after he gets back from hunting--wants to make sure that was the right fix before charging me. ------- We need to do everything possible to A) Preserve this kind of one man "I've got a guy for that" businesses and B) Preserve high trust society. I want to live in a world where someone can perform a service for me without first needing to enter me into a CRM, and where I can continue to let people onto my property without supervision. It's the way human community was designed to work.

Great insights from the best mayor in Idaho.
This is remarkably honest and accurate. Many young men in particular voted Democrat not because they liked the Democrats, but because they wanted to punish Republicans for a long history of betrayal. This is a disaster for America because you don't win by losing and handing power to your enemies. Things will get worse for everyone. But the four issues Vance identifies are exactly correct. None of us wanted another war in the Middle East, especially when there's no clear benefit to Americans. It destroyed the Republican party and likely Trump's legacy. And much of the messaging from typical Republicans was laced with anti-white sentiment—from the Sarah Sanders "Brad" ad to the denouncing of Bo French for noticing that Texas had changed. We've seen establishment Republicans blame white men for being lazy or racist, meanwhile owning a home is out of reach for an increasing number of young folks, the taxes they pay to cover other people's welfare have gone up, jobs have gone oversees or been replaced with H-1Bs, and many places no longer feel like America because there are so many foreigners living there. White men have been ignored, mistreated, and generally taken for granted. This can't continue. Meanwhile, demographic shift is places like Texas has had a profound impact on election results. The people you envision when you think about Texas are no longer in control of Texas. Most of us have seen this coming and it's why immigration is the #1 issue on the American right. Are we still shouting into the wind, or are politicians starting to get it now? The immediate future is bleak. I'm afraid the Democrats will halt all our hard-won progress on immigration, and maybe start importing people again. I don't know whether I'm more angry at the folks who voted blue out of spite or at the establishment types for ignoring the electorate and largely wasting the electoral mandate from 2024 which was based on deportations, transparency, and no more foreign wars. In Vance's closing, he's telling us to reform the party and elect new people. That's the path forward. We're going to rebuild the Republican party with people who listen to their voters for once. Let's get to work.

Election Day Recap from the Gem State Brief Idaho continues to lead the way, laying a brighter future for its citizens through a resounding rejection of Proposition 1, embracing our collective heritage by enshrining English as our official language, and retaining all of our strong conservative candidates. Additionally, the 4th District Court is now in the hands of a strong conservative, Greg Woodard. These results demonstrate that Idahoans control our own destiny; we do not have to accept the fickle winds of national politics. We urge all Idahoans to join us in giving thanks to God for granting us victory against Proposition 1. There are more challenges ahead, but tonight proved that an active, God-fearing, and engaged citizenry is our best hope for a brighter future for ourselves, our children, and our state.
