This matters as notes tools add AI. To power AI a service has to read your content, and Notion documents that it sends page content to OpenAI and Anthropic and embeds every page. Those protections are contractual, and they hold for as long as the contract does.

Privt 0.2 has been released and you can now keep your own files in the vault, on-device, and each one is sealed the moment you save it under a key that is yours alone. That seal is a separate layer from macOS FileVault, and the difference is the whole point.

For the crypto-literate: content is sealed with XChaCha20-Poly1305 under a fresh per-item key. Your passphrase runs Argon2id (v1.3, 256 MiB, 3 passes) to a key that never leaves the device; recovery is a 12-word BIP39 phrase; on Apple silicon the root is also bound to the Secure Enclave. No homegrown crypto, just libsodium and CryptoKit.
