Europeans did not introduce Africans to clothing. In fact, African societies had professional weavers, dyers, specialized looms, complex textile techniques, major production centers, and extensive cloth-trading networks..
What changed was Imported industrially manufactured cloth from Europe and Asia increasingly competed with and replaced older local textile industries. We once produced enormous quantities of our own distinctive fabrics for local consumption and regional trade; many of those traditional methods couldn’t survive the industrial era so majority of our clothes in Africa is imported from Asia and Europe .
