23 prisons closed, 10,000 prison cells cut, Thousands of prisoners released early, Criminal justice system brought to the brink of collapse. Not once did Kemi Bay-denoch speak out or offer to resign. Instead she chose to keep her ministerial salary. @KemiBadenoch @Conservatives

"Manchesterism" is a tale of capitalism mixed with sportswashing. One is completely without morals. The other should have been prohibited by both the @FA and @premierleague. Instead, football shook the hand of the devil and took the "greed is good" pathway. #ManCity

To argue that capitalist investments into the UK are "neoliberal" misses the very fact that neoliberal policies such as Brexit essentially shut down inward investment into the UK. Moreover, NL meant Westminster Austerity didn't see the "value" in helping Manchester as AD did.

Capitalism (in whatever shade) and moral rectitude are not cosy bedfellows and should never be conflated. It's futile to do so. The middle east has massively invested in London. As have Putinist Russian oligarchs. It's a rabbit hole we don't want to (and can't..) go down.

Is Andy Burnham 'defending' Man City's owners? Journalist Joshi Herrmann explains why the UK's 'friends in the Gulf' hold so much sway. @Lewis_Goodall

Burnham's point is that whatever punishment is meted out, the net loss will be to the city of Manchester and the regular staff members of #ManchesterCity. This event is akin to COVID hitting football. The wealthy can lock themselves away (or run away). Regular people will suffer.

If Manchester City arranged more than $1 billion in fake sponsorship deals between 2009 and 2018, it's probably fair to assume that much of the revenue generated from 2020 to 2025 was also fake. They could have at least added a dip during COVID to make it look more realistic.

Is ANYONE (possibly aside from the PM) thinking about the amount of humans beings' lives that could be ripped apart if the owners decide to leave? This isn't just about the "purity of football" - a sport whose greed and arrogance has completely eaten itself. #Burnham #ManCity

Having now seen the actual interview with Burnham on the BBC news about City rather than two sentences of Twitter clickbait… it’s (once again) genuinely embarrassing how (the usual) people have lost their heads.

Replying to @lewis_goodall
@lewis_goodall possibly the most ill-conceived, myopic and conceited podcast title you smug lot have ever come up with... The wealth of London, thus the success of your very own lives has been buttressed by the money of middle east / Russian billionaire for decades. #NewsAgents

Isn't it ironic that the largely wealthy people that moaned (and still do) to the hills about car electrification for various reasons - people like @harrym_vids & obviously Clarkson - are now the people enjoying their electric cars as working class people pay c £2 a litre #diesel

🚨 WOW! THE DOOR IS OPEN. @andyburnham claimed the EU had ruled out associate membership for Britain. Now the European Parliament’s Brexit chief says it could “absolutely” be available 👉 if Labour drops its *obsolete* Brexit red lines. The obstacle is not Brussels, it is Westminster. Britain cannot demand protection under “Made in Europe” while refusing the European integration that makes that protection possible. Single market. Customs union. Associate membership. Then full EU membership. Game on 🙌

🚨 THE DAM HAS BROKEN. Tony Blair is calling on @andyburnham to make rejoining the EU within a decade a formal government objective and begin negotiations with everything on the table. Kinnock: put rejoining in Labour’s manifesto. Osborne: rejoin the customs union now. Miliband: build a new institutional relationship. The EU’s Brexit chief: Labour’s red lines are obsolete. Now Blair: begin the process of rejoining. This is no longer a fringe debate. The political centre of gravity is moving rapidly. ✅ Blair’s crucial point is that governments must lead public opinion when the national interest demands it, not remain imprisoned by the politics of 2016. Andy Burnham can lead Britain back into Europe, or history will overtake him.
