Tom Kerridge told @BBCNWT that the biggest issue that the hospitality sector currently faces is the cost of VAT. “The rest of Europe sits anywhere between about 8% and 12%. VAT in this country obviously sits at 20%.” #VATsTheProblem

Good to see politicians from all sides recognising the fundamental flaws in implementing an uncapped holiday tax - and welcome the pledge from @RobertJenrick that not only will Reform mayors not introduce one locally but that they would scrap it nationally. At a time when both the public and businesses are already facing substantial cost pressures, the Government should be focused on measures that encourage tourism and investment, and reduce hospitality’s tax burden closer, not add more cost.

Adding another tax to hospitality would risk losing 33,000 jobs. @allen_m_simpson, our Chief Exec, highlighted to @itvnews that the number of jobs at risk would be equivalent to the total number of jobs in the UK steel industry, if a 5% capped holiday tax were introduced.
