Hubble's satellite network lets any Bluetooth device connect directly to orbit with just a software update.
Cellular covers about 15% of Earth's landmass, and tracking anything beyond that has meant satellite hardware costing $25 or more per device. Hubble brings connectivity under 50 cents per device, which changes the math for billions of pallets, shipping containers, water pumps, and farm equipment that were never worth connecting before.

If you can flash a LaunchPad, you can put a sensor reading through a satellite.
Mohammad Afaneh of Novel Bits proved it end to end on a @TXInstruments CC2755P10 wireless MCU, a standard Bluetooth® LE chip, and documented every step: battery and temperature packed into four bytes, transmitted to a Hubble satellite in low Earth orbit, read back from the cloud. No satellite modem, no external power amplifier.
The same silicon beacons to Hubble's terrestrial gateway network, and the tutorial covers both paths, with power numbers measured on the bench.
About two hours to build. Then you wait for the next pass.

On August 6, the FCC opened a formal proceeding exploring direct-to-satellite communications for unlicensed Part 15 devices, including Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
A few years ago this sounded impossible. Now the rules are being written.
