I saw a soothsayer, all he could do was predict events in the future.
Terence Tao on today's AI: "you look at how it's done and it doesn't feel like intelligence, like its some trick, you just cobble together these neural networks and we ran some algorithm and we were looking for some elusive intelligent way of thinking and we don't see it in the tools that actually solve our goals." ---- From "Berggruen Institute and Futurology" YouTube channel, (link in comment)

Faster than light exchange of information is required for this universe to exist.

For the first time, I’m choosing not to use the smartest model for most of my work. Smart take too long with limited benefit. I think we have reached a practical minimum for useful and powerful work to be achieved with the assistance AI.

This is true in a piecemeal way. The issue is that health as a system is broken and relies on staff (not just doctors) to paper over cracks and hold it all together. We need more than AI that can replace staff. We need better systems. I'm building it..
I’m hearing this a lot lately. “AI alone is already better than AI + doctor.” (Last heard here @x @FutureJurvetson). If true, what do you think this tells us?

So basically there's a whole bunch of people that want to give YOU a whole bunch of money. You just need to give them an excuse.

Every creative act is an act of destruction. Every destructive act is an act of creativity. Such is the nature of this universe.

Create your vision. Choose our outcome. Work relentlessly towards it. Perfectionism is thrown around a lot but it’s rarely seen in execution. Be obsessive about the vision. Sometimes the details matter, often they don’t.

So the side effect of abolishing the surcharge is losing the ability to use credit cards. Absolutely outstanding work…
The ATO just showed how government handles a cost it can’t surcharge. From 30 November 2026, no more credit card payments to the tax office. The RBA banned surcharges. The ATO decided it “would not be appropriate” for the merchant fee to land on the community. So the option disappears. They won’t absorb it. They won’t show you the cost. They’ll just take the choice away. Will Services Australia, councils, courts and state revenue offices do the same? Or will they quietly lift the base fee for everyone who pays, cash or card? Every time government “simplifies” a payment, the taxpayer ends up with fewer options and the same bill.

Elite chopstick skills
This is the highest level of calligraphy mastery. The tips move like they are dancing. One hand. Two brushes. Chinese calligraphy has always been an art of energy and balance.

Enlightenment is a fascinating word. I’d always associated it with “light”, seeing and truth but more recently I’ve come to appreciate it as unburdening. Release from artificial constraints you have created for yourself.
