The Fiscal Council has just published its Flash Release on Budget 2027. Here are the key takeaways: Budget 2027 puts the public finances on a worse trajectory by repeatedly breaking established spending limits and increasingly relying on high-risk corporation tax.

My initial analysis of Budget 2027. Probably an underwhelming tax package for households while failing to get to grips with spending. Total cost of running Ireland next year €125 billion, highly dependent on corporation tax receipts. businesspost.ie/analysis-opi…

What are the most important issues facing the country? According to CSO data released today almost 2/3 of Irish people believe it’s cost of living, alongside housing.

One of the successes of Irish companies in recent years has been to capitalise on global data centre boom. Those who sold out recently may have chosen the optimal time. Wall Street Is Growing Skeptical of the Data Center Boom nytimes.com/2026/09/21/busin… via @NYTimes

It is absolutely time for the Euro area's core GDP to be done without Ireland (in practice, the ECB already does this) -- and the IMF should also look at the Euro area's balance of payments without Ireland ft.com/content/769abc3f-5e34…

Very sad to hear of John’s death. A wonderfully funny person to speak to and incredibly knowledgeable to interview. His legacy is helping so many people understand and manage money better. One of the few people who understood the importance of financial literacy.

Arrears are spreads across multiple suppliers. And there are no disconnections. As someone who reported on pay of executives a lot, this is way below what a company this size would pay.
ESB CEO gets a €92,000 pay rise to €410,000. A 29% jump, signed off by Government. Almost 320,000 households are in arrears on their electricity bills. Reward at the top, hardship at the kitchen table. I will be raising this in the Dáil.

He’s correct in that people need to take responsibility for their own waste and not dump it outside at all hours. But it is the job of the council to come up with better solutions. And also it is their job to make the city look clean.

Once again a refusal for anything that approaches high rise for no good reason. The population of Dublin is heading for 2 million but there is a preference for urban sprawl for offices and residential rather than going up.
