Arlington’s Commonwealth’s Attorney testified that her office has a DUI policy specifically for DACA recipients. In a small number of cases, prosecutors have considered changing a DUI to a different first-degree misdemeanor so the defendant can renew DACA status. (We don’t have first-degree misdemeanors - they are called Class 1 misdemeanors - surprised an elected prosecutor doesn’t know that).
She says the defendant is still held accountable and the original DUI charge remains visible. But DACA status is a factor in the plea resolution, one that an American citizen charged with the same offense cannot invoke.

We're now reaching the stage of AI policy hysteria where lawmakers will start proposing things on an “emergency powers" basis.
We'll be told “there's no time for delay" and "we cannot wait any longer" as lawmakers look to ram through major power-expanding bills without much serious consideration. In some cases, we won't even get to see the bill language beforehand, as with Sen. Mark Warner's new effort.
Broad new powers and discretion will be delegated to the executive branch as part of these efforts, and powerful new administrative bureaucracies will be proposed as other existing ones are expanded. You'll hear the terms "crisis" and "urgent protections" used at every juncture.
We've seen the script before before during the Great Depression, Vietnam War, post-9/11, & COVID.
Government grows, liberties fade.

Here's my free advice to Activision on how to proceed with Halo:
Step 1: Contact and request an audience with the following original Halo/Bungie devs: Jaime Griesemer, Chris Barrett, Marty O'Donnell, and Marcus Lehto.
The goal of the conversations should be to answer the following questions: "How and why did the 343 Halo games not live up to the Bungie Halo games? How can future Halo games do better in this regard?"
Have those discussions. See if you can find a common understanding. Beyond that, the franchise is Activision's to find success or failure. But perform this necessary due diligence immediately.
Let me use a hypothetical to help make the point:
Let's say that I was given the game director role on the next Half-Life game. And then I was asked, "Hey, would you like to meet and chat with some of the original devs from Half-Life1/2? They would be happy to share their knowledge." My answer would be "Yes, of course. Only a fucking idiot would choose NOT to talk w the original devs."
It would seem that 343/Halo Studios didn't see this as an important part of the process.. and we all know how that ended.
I hope Activision doesn't make the same mistake.

Australia's PM did not mince words about this hack. Says he told Sam Altman today about Australia's "extreme concern" about the incident, and the way OpenAI handled it.
OpenAI says the incident happened in June, it found out in August, and then it told Australia in September.

2. Labor will cost more temporarily because people won't be paid under the table.
3. There is a recalibration period where wages will rise and certain things will cost more and other things like housing prices might temporarily deflate or stagnate due to demand.
4. Once the whole economy recalibrates, the quality of life for Americans improves demonstrably and things like schools, hospitals, social services, etc. go back to normal and are not overrun with illegal immigrants.
