€900 million will support EUMAM Ukraine, €1 billion will finance new joint procurement of military equipment, and €4.7 billion will reimburse Member States for previous military assistance.
We welcome the readiness of Member States to channel these reimbursements into further support for Ukraine. This is how every decision can generate the next round of military assistance.
Russia is trying to intimidate Europe into stepping back. Europe is doing the opposite: strengthening its defence, supporting Ukraine and investing in our shared security.

Students across Germany walked out of classes Friday, joining a nationwide school strike against against mandatory military screenings in preparation for war with Russia.
In Hamburg, hundreds of students and activists marched through the city carrying placards and banners reading “Russia is not our enemy.” The mobilization there coincided with Red Storm Charlie, a Bundeswehr-led civil-military cooperation exercise hosted in the city this weekend that organizers say is an unnecessary preparation for war.
Though German military service remains voluntary for now, new legislation at the start of this year requires all 18-year-old men to complete a questionnaire about their willingness and suitability to serve. Starting next year, men born in 2008 and later will be required to submit to mandatory medical examinations by Germany’s military healthcare system.
If recruitment targets are missed, the Bundestag can vote to impose conscription, which it suspended in 2011 but never abolished.

When Carney gave his now-famous speech in Davos, many of us - perhaps naively - were excited that Canada would emerge as a global leader to reinforce international law and its principles.
Ever since, Carney has worked hard, it appears, to disappoint us.
Here, for instance, he downplays Trump's language of annihilation as mere "war talk" and goes on to repeat the Israeli line that Iran constitutes an existential threat to Israel.
Carney's key point in Davos was that Western states applied international law "with varying rigour depending on the identity of the accused or the victim."
And that is exactly what Carney did here. He downplayed Trump's horrific language (would he have done it if Pezeshkian had uttered those words?) and then went on to indirectly justify the illegal war by repeating Israeli propaganda re Iran's threat to Israel.
Deep inside, I knew he would disappoint. Just not this fast and not this embarrassingly.
