Carney walked away from the table and sold it as standing up for Canada. That is the line. The result is the opposite. The backlash lands on the two provinces that actually make things. Ontario. Quebec. Auto. Steel. Aerospace. Parts plants. That is not theory. That is where the paycheques are.
Then he piled on a second hit. Dollar-for-dollar Carney tariffs. Those start tomorrow.
Trump’s levy hits our exports. Carney’s levy hits our aisles. Electronics. Appliances. Food that crosses the border. The stuff families actually buy. He even said some of this would raise costs and shrink choice. Then he did it anyway.
This is the guy who ran as the only adult who could close a deal by July 2025. Eighteen months of cowboy hats, photo ops, and Italy. Then he pulls the plug and calls it strength.
Howard Lutnick said Canada walked for political purposes. Ottawa denied it. Then the by-elections happened and the Trump-as-villain machine worked again. That is not a trade strategy. That is a campaign.
You do not protect workers by lighting their cost of living on fire so a banker can look tough on TV.
Ontario and Quebec will feel this first. The rest of the country is next.
