Proud father, attorney, veteran, @officialoppf / @HowardU man, Baltimore City State's Attorney. By Authority: Friends of Ivan Bates, Ashley Taylor, Treasurer

Baltimore, MD
Four years ago I crisscrossed the city promising to hold repeat violent offenders accountable, rebuild the State’s Attorney’s office, protect our older adults, and stand up for victims of crime. Four years later, I've held true to my word. We've delivered historic reductions in homicides and violent crime. We've held those who commit quality-of-life crimes accountable through our Citation Docket. We created a new Older Adult and Disabled Persons Unit and expanded our city's Victim and Witness Division. We've made Baltimore safer by being "smart on crime.” We’re setting the right priorities, handing down tough but fair sentences for violent crime, and building stronger relationships with our communities. #PromisesMadeCommitmentsKept

If you prey on our most vulnerable populations, our older adults or children, and commit a murder, we are not going to negotiate. We are not giving out numbers, only letters. Specifically, these four letters: L-I-F-E.

On the second episode of Beyond the Status Quo, Baltimore City State’s Attorney Ivan Bates sits down with State Senator Shaneka Henson, candidate for State Senate Stephanie Popescu, and Baltimore Question I advocate Nate Golden. SA Bates discusses with Henson and Popescu what has motivated them in their political engagement and service and their priorities for serving Maryland if elected. Nate Golden is championing the “baby bonus” ballot Question I, and he and SA Bates discuss how the city can better support its newest residents. Election Day is next Tuesday (November 3rd) and early voting has started! Let this episode be motivation to research what is on your ballot and to make a plan to vote.

Thank you to my friend and Maryland's Secretary of Juvenile Services, Betsy Fox Tolentino, for joining me as my first guest. Perhaps this episode will serve as a reminder that people can share the same goals, disagree on how to achieve them, and still leave a conversation with a smile and a willingness to work together. youtu.be/Y4plOdVqg2g

Good Morning, Baltimore! It's October 20th. I'm excited to reveal the first episode of my new podcast, Beyond the Status Quo. This program will be a platform for open and honest discussions about law enforcement, social justice, and other important public policy issues. It will not include the political bickering and finger-pointing, but rather will focus on fresh ideas that challenge the status quo.

Happening right now: Baltimore State’s Attorney @ivanjbates is holding a press conference to explain why he CANNOT pursue a murder charge in the death of 69-yr-old Barry Wright, who was killed after police say a 12-yr-old driving a stolen car collided w/ his motorcycle. @wbaltv11

Our smart on crime polities are clearly working, thanks to the hard work of our federal, state and local law enforcement partners. But the progress we’ve made and bridges we’ve built would not be possible without you, the people of Baltimore. baltimoresun.com/2026/10/01/…

The public deserves accountability, to know and be able to access the meaningful information about how our criminal justice system operates, and the data to highlight how the SAO is performing. The data dashboard we launched yesterday, along with a revised SAO website, provides a quantitative look at the many facets of our work - from cases and prosecutions to outcomes and other key performance metrics - that help tell the story of public safety and accountability here in Baltimore City. stattorney.org

Have you, a friend and/or family member been subject to false charges being levied against you/them via the court commissioner process? If so, we want to hear from YOU! For three years, Delegate Jackie Addison and I have been trying to change this archaic and often retaliatory system down in Annapolis. We were minutes away from passage during the last session and want lawmakers to hear from the residents of Maryland to better understand why changes to this system are necessary during this upcoming session. Join us at Ark Church (1263 E. North Avenue) on Tuesday, Sept 29th from 6:00-8:00P to have this candid conversation with those looking to offer real solutions to the issues we face. #BuildingBridgesForABetterBaltimore #CourtCommissionerProcess #CommunityConversations
