The thing that makes a person want to run a scam company that is valued at $9B is the same sort of narcissism that makes a person think they are clever or charming enough to outsmart a documentarian or journalist. Most good doc subjects are narcissists.

If people considered for a second that film work is transient which means the film craft union benefits also come and go they’d probably have more grace about this. You could star in a syndicated sitcom and still lose your healthcare.
literally had a starring role in a Netflix show that ran 4 seasons and has had plenty of work after. as someone who has quite literally never had health insurance even when they were under 26, it's disgusting to watch someone in a great position in life e-beg for unneeded help.

Every industry from film to education has been consumed by parasitic administrators and middlemen which leave the actual workers vulnerable to further cuts to their pay and work conditions when people remark “where is all of the money going?” when the product gets worse.

I think there's an idea in Dem policy world that programs like universal pre-k are the key to winning over more young families. But I think it's far more important to become the party of education reform again (IE. Obama in '08)

if you read the nhj essay against the grain, a classic "education reformer" agenda emerges from it, teachers and administrators seem to face no real pressure to produce objective or testable results, the discipline system seems to structurally disadvantage well-behaved kids...

These people came for public education and teacher’s unions a decade ago, and lost the battle, but they want to blame their iPad kids post Covid on teachers and public school and might get the job done with AI charter schools.
Public education may be one of the clearest examples. More funding matters, but at some point liberals have to ask why money hasn’t produced better outcomes and whether institutions we’ve traditionally defended, including teachers unions, sometimes stand in the way of reform.
