THE BIGGEST WINNERS IN QUANTUM MIGHT NOT EVEN BE FROM QUANTUM COMPANIES.
@chamath brings up a point from Warren Buffet that when refrigeration was invented, the people who built refrigerators made some money. The people who made fortunes were the ones who figured out what to do with it for example Coca Cola
Apply that to quantum computing and we'll see a similar result.
Now companies like Quantinuum or Infleqtion will still make an absolute fortune if they achieve a Fault Tolerant computer and the winners will go on to become some of the biggest companies in the world but some of the biggest fortunes in quantum will be built by the companies that use the machine to do something nobody could do before.
Where the Coca Colas sit today:
Pharma: Every drug ever made was found by trial and error and 90% fail. A quantum computer ends the guessing. It runs the chemistry of a molecule inside the body before it exists in a lab, which means cancer, Alzheimer's, and diseases we've never cured stop being lottery tickets and become search problems.
Energy: Aramco just put a quantum computer inside its own data center and signed Quantinuum's Helios to a research pact. The prize is carbon capture chemistry and reservoir optimization on the largest hydrocarbon base on earth.
Critical minerals: yesterday USA Rare Earth pointed Pasqal's machine at rare earth separation, the chokepoint China controls. Solve one molecule and you break a monopoly.
Finance: JPMorgan runs the biggest quantum team on Wall Street, not to sell quantum, but to price risk faster than everyone else.
Pure play quantum names are only one part of the trade.
