Barack Obama at his last press briefing with reporters, 2017: "I have enjoyed working with all of you. That does not, of course, mean that I've enjoyed every story that you have filed, but that's the point of this relationship. You're not supposed to be sycophants. You're supposed to be skeptics. You're supposed to ask me tough questions. You're not supposed to be complimentary, but you're supposed to cast a critical eye on folks who hold enormous power."

Yes we are sympathetic to US citizens who don’t support Trump but this line is fading in the sand as the days go by.
** I lifted this off Facebook. It is a great post by Mick Doyle ** I keep hearing Americans say: “I’m not responsible for Trump. I didn’t vote for him.” Okay. But let me tell you how this looks from outside the United States. I live in a major border town. I see American licence plates every day. Lots of them. And here's the uncomfortable truth: I don't stop to wonder whether the person behind the wheel voted for Trump. I don't know them. I don't know their politics. I don't know whether they despise Trump or worship him. I see the American plate. And whether it's fair or not, I automatically associate them with the country whose government is doing these things. That's what national identity does. That's how the rest of the world sees you. When the United States invades a country, threatens another, imposes economic warfare, supplies weapons for a war, or attacks the sovereignty of another nation, the world doesn't have the luxury of separating every individual American from the actions of the American state. The United States invaded Venezuela. The United States is waging economic war against Canada. The United States has seriously contemplated military action against Mexico, a sovereign country. The United States has repeatedly threatened the sovereignty of Greenland. The United States is supplying Israel with weapons and military support while Gaza is being devastated. The United States continues its decades-long economic strangulation of Cuba. And then comes: “But that's Trump. I'm not responsible. I didn't vote for him.” Maybe you didn't. But here's the problem: The rest of the world sees the American flag. We don't see your ballot. We don't know how you voted. We see your government. And if you genuinely oppose what your government is doing, then don't simply ask the rest of the world to distinguish you from it. Make the distinction visible. Protest. Organize. March. Speak out. Put pressure on your representatives. Make your opposition impossible to ignore. Because the midterms are still up in the air. There is no guaranteed deliverance from this menace waiting around the corner. Trump could lose. He could win. Congress could change. It could remain divided. Nobody knows. And while everyone waits for an election to potentially save them, American power continues to be exercised around the world. So no, I don't believe every American is a Trump supporter. But I also don't believe Americans can simply wash their hands of what the United States does by saying: “That's Trump, not me.” Because whether you like it or not, national actions create national reputations. I live with that reality every day when I see those American plates. And so does the rest of the world. You may not be Trump. But the world sees the American flag. Full stop.

🇺🇸/🇨🇦 Trump Called Canada an Enemy. Now He’s Targeting the Engine of its Entire Economy By Attacking the Loonie. By targeting the Canadian dollar, Trump is entering a new and frightening dimension of the trade war. He is leveling the same accusations against Canada as he did against China—a geopolitical adversary—which he accused of deliberately devaluing its currency. Yet, Canada does not manipulate its currency. Unlike Beijing, which directly controlled its currency, Canada’s exchange rate floats freely on the markets. Its current weakness stems from economic uncertainty and the Bank of Canada’s interest rate cuts. Why is this now TOTAL WAR? Trump is Weaponizing Monetary Sovereignty. Tariffs usually target individual industries like wood, steel, or dairy. By targeting the Canadian dollar (loonie), the U.S. is attacking the foundational engine of the entire Canadian economy. For Ottawa, currency value is a matter of strict national sovereignty that cannot be compromised under foreign duress. By demanding an end to this imbalance, Trump is indirectly asking Canada to alter its domestic monetary policy—an unprecedented act of interference. It is a Total Breakdown of the Alliance Guardrails: By putting Canada on the same level as China, Trump is signaling the world that Canada is now an enemy. The Disruption will be EVERYWHERE A currency-focused conflict threatens every single layer of cross-border commerce. Make no mistake. We are at war for our survival as a country. And the blow comes from behind, in our back from a cherished friend. There is no turning back now. #CDNPOLI #LOONIE
Canada’s (currency) Dollar imbalance with the U.S. is unacceptable. It has been that way for years - but no longer! President DJT ( TS: Sep 6 2026, 9:10 AM ET )‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‍

Trump, as President, controls the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS). That's why he can name stuff whatever he wants and Google, Apple, etc. use it. They just mirror GNIS. The rest of the world still sees Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario right now because they don't use GNIS and once Trump is out of office, Americans will see the real names again too. This is nothing more than a man child playing make believe with his toys. Focus on $4 gas, endless war, expensive groceries, ICE murdering people, trash healthcare, and the things that actually matter.

Top ten countries the US has a trade deficit with. But Fuckface only bitches about the 10th one.
.@POTUS on Canada: "They are one of the worst countries in the world to deal with... They take advantage of us as though they were a state — and they're not a state... It's time to teach Canada you can't do this anymore. We lose $60 billion, and really more than that, a year with Canada. We can't do that."

🌞Good Morning Canada 🇨🇦☕️ Slept well? Donald Trump has done something remarkable. Nearly 100 years after the United States learned the hard way that Smoot-Hawley-style protectionism can become an economic disaster, Trump has decided to reach back into the 1930 Tariff Act and use Section 338 against Canada. Yes. 1930. In 2026. The Smoot-Hawley Tariff was supposed to protect American workers and industries. Instead, America's trading partners retaliated, trade collapsed and the policy became one of the great historical warnings against protectionism. The numbers tell the story: 🇺🇸 U.S. exports to Europe fell from $2.341 billion in 1929 to $784 million in 1932. 🇺🇸 U.S. imports from Europe plunged from $1.334 billion to $390 million. 🌎 World trade collapsed by roughly 66% between 1929 and 1934. And Canada retaliated against the United States then, too. Economists and historians don't claim Smoot-Hawley single-handedly caused the Great Depression, but it deepened the economic damage, provoked retaliation and contributed to the collapse of international trade. So here we are in 2026. Trump has dusted off a nearly century-old tariff provision and imposed 50% tariffs on roughly $20 billion of Canadian goods. Canada has responded: dollar for dollar. Think about that. ✨️A president supposedly making America "great again" has reached back almost 100 years for a trade weapon whose historical legacy is largely a warning about what happens when countries turn trade into economic warfare. America tried this before, Donald. It didn't end well. And apparently, the lesson had to be taught twice. Good morning, Canada. 🇨🇦 History remembers the mistakes we repeat.

Just a reminder: in 1982, when Great Britain was attacked by Argentina, starting the Falklands War, the United States did not come to their aid because the Falklands are not in the North Atlantic and the British did not bitch about it. In 1956, when the French and British attacked Egypt, causing the Suez Crisis, despite the fact that France and Great Britain are in NATO, the United States not only refused to assist, but went to the United Nations to condemn them for attacking Egypt. In 2019, when Turkey decided to attack Syria, the Trump administration had the Pentagon send out an official notice that they did not support the campaign and would not send troops. So kindly shut the fuck up, everyone in the White House.
“NATO WASN’T THERE WHEN WE NEEDED THEM, AND THEY WON’T BE THERE IF WE NEED THEM AGAIN. REMEMBER GREENLAND, THAT BIG, POORLY RUN, PIECE OF ICE!!!” - President Donald J. Trump
Community note
NATO Articles 5 & 6 require "individual or collective self-defence" from "an armed attack against one or more of them" in Europe or North America, the Algerian Departments of France, the territory of Turkey, or islands under member jurisdiction. Not aggressive war. nato.int/en/about-us/of…

Here we have Larry Johnson, former CIA analyst, saying it straight: the American public is being lied to about the war. Iran has shattered five of America’s top-of-the-line radar systems, two worth a billion dollars each, and three THAAD batteries, wiping out 30% of US global radar coverage in a single week. That’s $4 billion down the drain, and the US now can barely see incoming strikes anymore. Early warnings? From 30 minutes to a single minute. The naval base in Bahrain? Essentially leveled. Meanwhile, Iran has pulled in Russia and China as full partners, something unthinkable just months ago. And what does the US do? Double down on bombs instead of diplomacy. Johnson’s warning is crystal clear: if this keeps up, the next step isn’t just a regional conflict,it could ignite a global war that nobody is ready for.

Trump said he would create jobs. But almost no jobs were created last year, averaging only 15,000 per month, compared to over 100,000 per month in 2024. Trump said he was going to drill, drill, drill, but the number of oil rigs in operation dropped to a 4-year low last year. Trump said tariffs would energize American manufacturing, but we've lost manufacturing jobs every month since Liberation Day. Trump said DOGE was going to find so much waste and fraud that every American would receive a check for thousands of dollars. DOGE ended up costing more than the tiny amount of cuts it made. Trump said that other countries would pay for the tariffs, and that the revenue would replace income tax and provide refund checks. There were no checks. We pay the tariffs, and we still have income taxes. Trump said he would tackle the debt. He increased it by $2.2 trillion last year. The lowest earners saw their real wages decrease last year. Over 100,000 blue-collar jobs were lost. Outstanding credit card debt surpassed $1.2 trillion. But at least the wealthiest Americans got massively wealthier last year. That is who Trump is looking out for. Not you.

. @profgalloway speaks facts about the Canada - US trade relationship. “If there’s a trade imbalance, or an asymmetry, it benefits us (the USA) full stop.” His point is that the tariffs, threats, and attacks on Canada make no sense, and are contrary to the commercial interests of the USA.

Yesterday, a Five Eyes leader stood in Beijing and praised Xi Jinping’s leadership. Today, Peter Navarro is circulating plans to expel Canada from the intelligence alliance. Mark Carney chose his words with a central banker’s precision: “the new world order.” The exact phrase Xi uses for multipolarity. The exact phrase Putin uses for “the West versus the Rest.” The exact phrase Carney himself deployed at Jackson Hole 2019 when he proposed a “Synthetic Hegemonic Currency” to challenge dollar dominance. This was not a gaffe. It was a signal heard in every capital on Earth. Here is the sequence Washington created: 35% tariffs on a Five Eyes ally. USMCA declared “irrelevant.” Annexation threats: “the 51st state.” Greenland ultimatum: “whether they like it or not.” Canadian response: Eight MOUs with Beijing. China surpassing America as top buyer of Canadian crude. “Strategic partnership” replacing “disruptive global power.” 76% of Germans now view America as unreliable. The lowest level ever recorded. The strategic paradox will be studied for centuries: Every action designed to isolate China accelerates the multipolar realignment it was meant to prevent. Carney’s Beijing summit is a template for every middle power facing American pressure. Australia already reset relations with Beijing. UK’s Starmer planning his own China visit. USMCA review arrives July 2026. America is building the multipolar world it fears. One ally at a time.
