For me the 2027 evaluation shortlist is the interesting part. Seeing Helsing compete against Boeing-Rheinmetall and Airbus-Kratos on a programme of this size is new territory for the European industry. I will be watching that one closely.
Germany has abandoned plans to fast-track the purchase of Boeing’s MQ-28 Ghost Bat combat drones from Australia. The Bundeswehr had considered purchasing at least 12 drones worth over €800 million, aiming for deployment by 2029. However, defense officials concluded that no available system fully meets Germany’s operational requirements. Berlin will instead launch a competitive evaluation in 2027, potentially involving Boeing-Rheinmetall, Airbus-Kratos and German startup Helsing. The decision could delay deployment until the early 2030s. Source: Die Welt

Great tracking work. A few km of separation at orbital velocity means tens of seconds of close approach. Whatever the intent, this is exactly why I keep pushing for independent SSA coverage.
Crazy that we live in a time to watch a (presumably hostile) satellite interception from ground telescopes. COSMOS is within a few km of ICEYE here. 😬 Gorgeous footage though!

Mock it all you want, Europe certified half the aircraft flying over your head. The roadster is still a stage video.
🇪🇺Just in: EUROPE also says it will fast track funding to compete with the flying roadster.🤣

Good meeting with 🇧🇬 Bulgarian PM @RumenRadevPM and 🇷🇴 Romanian President @NicusorDanRO about security in the Black Sea & the latest attacks on commercial shipping. NATO has strengthened our posture along the eastern flank including with increasing counter-drone capabilities. NATO will continue to work closely with our Allies in the Black Sea, adjusting our deterrence and defence posture as needed

Cockpit view of a canopy that came unlatched midflight.Everything is calm until it isn’t. The canopy is no longer fully secured and the wind is trying to peel it open. This person is gripping the canopy frame with one hand and fighting the latch handle with the other. You can see how much force it takes. In training they call this “aviate, navigate, communicate.” An open canopy is loud, cold and distracting, but it’s rarely fatal. Panic and a pilot who stops flying are what turns this kind of nuisance into an emergency. ✈️

Look at this Air Maroc Cargo 767. Right after the main gear touches down, instead of settling onto the runway the aircraft’s nose rises unexpectedly making it look as if the aircraft has changed its mind and wants to take off again! What do you think caused this unusual landing?
