1) This highlights the importance of a free press doing the hard work of knowledge generation and dissemination. Imagine getting this story fact-checked and confirmed in a few hours!
2) I work in a very polarized space where science and policy collide. It is very easy to see people who disagree with you as a homogenous and evil "Other"--but does that lens best help you advance your goals? It sure feels like understanding the varying views of your "opponents" can be useful.
