I don’t think people realize how selfless and wonderful the StackOverflow’s founders were. Unlike reddit, x etc they insisted ALL of their content will be 100% open, nothing will ever be locked up in walled garden. They made it a point by even offering structured data downloads! They didn’t cared people cloning the website. They didn’t worry about putting the whole monetization thing at risk. It was a true hacker spirit in it’s purest form. Most folks won’t be able to grasp how hard this is. You are on top of the world. Millions of people depend on you daily. You have the rarest opportunity to rack in billions. And you still stay true to your principles. This exactly in turn later enabled AI revolution. I still remember downloading entire SO archives and preparing it for pre-training while Reddit and others went onto lawfare and firewalling the content. Note that this was the content their users - not reddit employees - had created for free and voluntarily to help others and the world. But they locked it all up for profiting from it personally. SO did none of that. I think they knew they will be sacrificed at the altar. Yet it will exactly serve the intent of their founding principles to help others and the world, now through AI, even at bigger scale. All of today’s models are built upon efforts of such true pure hackers who spent their days and years to create training data for AIs. I was a proud SO contributer for many years and there are couple of times while testing models I did felt that models might have used my answers 😇. Hats off to @codinghorror and @spolsky and so many builders and hackers at SO for moving the world forward, one revolution at a time 🫡.

The hypocrisy of @piersmorgan in 4 screenshots. I’d ask why his critical response to Meghan Sussex differs so drastically from the grace he gives to Eugenie and Beatrice, but we all know why. A disingenuous, bigoted, excuse of a “journalist” who wouldn’t last 2 secs in her shoes.

So basically, today PHP got two critical bugs that let anyone run code on your server without even logging in, which is bad, and then the details leaked before the patch was even out, which is worse, and it works on WordPress and MediaWiki and Magento and Joomla and Laravel, and Censys says like 1.5 million servers are running a version with no fix, so the NSA was like "take your system offline," and the FBI was like "take your system offline," and CISA and the UK and CERT-EU were all like "take your system offline," and then the Prime Minister of Japan, the actual Prime Minister, posted at 5:55 in the morning telling 48.8 million people to take their system offline, so everyone took their system offline, like the Dutch cybersecurity agency took its own website offline, and the Dutch parliament went offline, and the Port of Rotterdam went offline, and Finland and France and Denmark started pulling government sites, and Wikipedia went down, and Archive.org went down, and Asana and GOG and Something Awful went down, and the University of Vienna's webmail went down for some reason, and that's just PHP. Because GitLab also dropped a CVSS 10.0, which is the highest score they give out, for a bug that's been there since 2014, so that's every self-hosted GitLab for twelve years, and then LiteLLM 1.107.0 got hijacked and shipped a credential stealer and a remote access trojan in every single wheel and the Docker images, including latest, and you didn't even have to import it, just installing it was enough, and it's the second time this year, and then Railway paused every deployment on the entire platform because someone got into the environment variables, so now everyone has to rotate every secret they've ever stored there, and TiDB Cloud said someone was walking around inside with stolen credentials for basically a month and an extortion group says they took 10.6 terabytes, and Zeabur got breached for the second time in two months and is just shutting down, like the whole company, and Node.js patched remote code execution and a TLS bypass, and CISA says Plex is being actively exploited, and someone took over 300 Tor exit relays to steal SSH passwords, and SafePay ransomware has hit over 600 critical infrastructure orgs, and India's biggest bank filed a data loss incident, and Japan has been in an official state of emergency in cyberspace since October 9, which honestly explains the 5:55 AM post. Oh, and eMudhra, a certificate authority that's issued over 60 million certificates, whose entire job is proving websites are who they say they are, was supposed to be using private keys that are random numbers over a hundred digits long, and one of them was 4. Just 4. And the others were like 66 and 237. Anyway, it's Wednesday.

The Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) will change on November 3, 2026: •You can get more points for eligible Canadian work experience or a qualifying job offer in a high wage occupation. •You will no longer need a labour market impact assessment for a job offer to be considered for CRS points or eligibility under the Federal Skilled Worker Program or Federal Skilled Trades Program. IRCC will assess job offers directly. These changes are part of broader reforms to the Express Entry system. Learn more: bit.ly/4yttYzQ

Notice how it's never time for Putin, who has invaded and slaughtered his way through Ukraine, Syria, and across Africa, to go. No, it's the democratically-elected president of a country that's been terrorized by Russia for over a decade.
And so the slaughter continues … Time for Zelensky to go

Congratulations Lauren 🎊 Look how everyone is cute and cuddly in the cs & quotes, even 4 hours later? No Reform or Restore bots or influencers in sight. All their "outrage" is about race. If you decide to be blind to it and instead attack your demographic when they are subject to those attacks, you are part of the problem.
I am officially a permanent resident of the UK 🇬🇧 It wasn’t an easy road to get here. It took six years, four jobs, nearly £10k, and a few incredibly stressful months when I was laid off on a work visa in 2023 (0/10, would not recommend). But it has all been worth it. It’s very popular to be negative about the UK these days, but I think we forget how lucky we are to live here. Street food markets. Meal deals. A cup of tea to cure all your ails. History around every corner. The intellectual home of classical liberalism and Adam Smith. The beauty of Cornish beaches, Oxford’s colleges, Sussex’s villages, the Highland lochs, the moors of Yorkshire. The way the Thames looks when the sunset hits after London’s long summer evenings. From arriving on the Eurostar train in the height of Covid in September 2020 to now, it’s been a journey. I love it here, and I hope this helps those of you here to remember to love it too. ❤️

The thing I learned this year is that when engineers say they like working on “hard problems”, they actually don't. What they like is puzzle solving, and having a repertoire of patterns that they can pattern match onto traditionally hard problems, usually involving databases or something with scale, etc. And they know that the industry used to pay you a lot for how deep and broad this repertoire was. Unfortunately, in 2026, well, you have a cheat code machine that has infinite breadth and depth for pattern matching. So the question is, do you actually like hard problems? Because there are now hard problems that are a complection of engineering, product, society, culture, politics, and they are fairly intractable, probably unsolvable! Because if you do want to work on those actually hard problems, there is so much money that people will pay you for it. But you’ll have to face that truth about yourself first.
