Part of me loves this tech. Another part of me looks at all the suffering that technology should alleviate — 35 mil below poverty line, 28 million without healthcare access, 1.3 mil abortions a year, almost a million homeless, and so on — and it seems so hollow.

Friends, two things can be true at the same time. This is why I say “part of me” on both of these. We have to be able to rejoice and lament.

Oh, ffs. This mindset allows for exactly zero joy and innovation. You can love technical excellence AND want a better, more just world. Theyvare not mutually exclusive.

Yes. I want both too. That’s why I say part of me on both things. Holding them in tension is not exactly zero.

We've thrown TRILLIONS at poverty and it's still fucking there, so... let's make some cool stuff while they sort themselves out.

imagine if the billions spent on tickets to Taylor Swift concerts had been instead used to provide healthcare to the destitute.. what a better world it would be! How come that's never the comparison?

Yeah, I agree, just like the Wright brothers; with so much poverty and suffering, that whole bicycle with wings they called a “flying machine” just seems so pointless.

Elon went to DOGE and busted his ass to find waste and fraud. And people set teslas on fire Elon saved stranded astronauts and did you applaud him ? Elon offered ways to solve hunger and he was turned away Elon provides internet to war and disaster areas and all we hear from the ingrates is whiny voices “muh a flying car ? But we wanted ….” You don’t deserve the guy

Karl Benz working on and patenting the Motorwagen (automobile). So pointless, and no actual use to humanity at the time. What a waste of valuable resources that could have reduced pain and suffering instead.

Our best and brightest should not be focused on fixing the problems of the bottom 10%. They're there for a reason.

So attack the businessman. Instead of going up after your corrupt government that has been stealing billions upon trillions of dollars from all of the exact programs that you're talking about. Private individuals shouldn't have to subsidize governments and efficiencies

You could have made the same statement initially about electricity, first cars and airplanes. Today, these technologies have reduced poverty across the world. Any top down plan to “alleviate suffering” usually produces the opposite result. This is an excellent opportunity to step back and think about value creation and the real sources of progress. Unrestricted innovation is the answer because no one can predict what “really helps” in advance. The trial and error PROCESS must continue. We must encourage top talent to always seek to do more, and do more with less. Signaling virtue as you did is EASY. Anyone can do it, there is no shortage of people who WISH to split the pie differently. Adding real value is much harder. All, we give WAY too much importance to those who proclaim wishes, not enough to actual producers and innovators.

Maybe some people don't want to harm others and just want to live the way they want to live, and the pain and suffering comes from others demanding they live differently. Reduce things to the simplified roots and go from there. If you can't, you might be part of the problem.

You appear to be confused. Musk is invested in propellant tech and related and not those areas you have noted. Perhaps petition those sectors that deal with those outcomes.

Most homeless are by choice because they're an addict. Most abortions by choice because people don't want to take any responsibility. I don't see you opining the roughly 10 billion that was spent on tiktok, etc. That feels hollow

Statements like this only work to bring people down. YOU have to be the one to work towards the change you want. You'll never guilt the world to care as much about the things you care about.

What are you - 7 years old? This is such puerile, asinine logic that it makes my teeth itch. Either that or - more likely - you know it’s asinine and puerile but assume that a large part of your audience is too ill-educated and driven by emotion to recognize that fact.

Sadly John you'll find those who try and save the world end up creating more problems. People can only save themselves. Help when you can but ultimately a person needs to decide to live. You can't make success mandatory. Freedom to succeed means freedom to fail.

Endless entitlements and cash flow to the bottom of our society only slows our progress. It sucks but giving people who have negative economic value more money makes that negative number bigger.
