Following up the space earlier with @notbunjil @SCUMSOL @Cabanimation, color and light is one of my favorite subjects to study.
Made this basics to color theory ages ago but it's still something I think about everyday when painting.

Color = Local color + color of the light source
In a strong lighting situation, shadow colors are complimentary to the color of the light source.
When mixing, the further apart the colors are on the color wheel, more desaturation happen.

Secondary light sources retain their colors, but should not over power the primary light source.
In out door scenarios, shadows reflect the color of the sky!
For a scene to look cohesive, key the painting to the color of the sky.
