The Muslim Brotherhood in South Africa still needed a humanitarian face. That role was filled by Imtiaz Sooliman, founder of Gift of the Givers, South Africa’s largest Islamic humanitarian organisation. In 2011, Sooliman personally received an award from Qaradawi. He also helped establish the Coalition for Good with South Africa’s foreign minister, Naledi Pandor. This would bring Islamic organisations together with ANC lawmakers and Palestinian activists under a shared anti-Western campaign. 🧵 6/8

33 people are shot dead in South Africa every day. This week, the UN handed that country the gavel at its Arms Trade Treaty conference. South Africa passed some of the strictest gun laws on earth. Citizens surrendered their guns under threat of prison. Then police tasked with destroying those guns sold them to street gangs. More than 1,000 murders have been traced to those firearms, including hundreds of children. The state took their guns and armed their killers. And South Africa isn’t the cautionary tale at this conference. It’s presiding over it. So I flew to Geneva and said it to their faces. Full speech below.

What the right-wing doesn't get about the Jason Arday is that even if he didn't accomplish anything, he was very accomplished. What matters are his intentions: he wanted to give to charity, he wanted to run marathons, he wanted to be a sociologist. This is what made him a great philanthropist, sportsman, and scholar. Just like you can choose your gender, minorities can now choose what professional accomplishments they have. This is why we held the vigil yesterday and treat him like a hero. Have a wonderful day, Wolfgang

Ramaphosa has been president for nine years, and the deputy president for three years prior to that. Throughout this tenure he presided over the imposition of one anti-business policy after another, the accelerated decline in infrastructure, collapsing SOEs, and an increasingly toxic domestic and international political environment. And that's before we discuss how he turned a blind eye to state capture for years and then, despite promises, completely failed to reign in rampant corruption and cadre deployment among his own ranks. Despite this, the man has the gall to stand there pointing fingers at everything other than his own pathetic failure. He is either spectacularly lacking in self-awareness or a blatant sociopath.

Cyril Ramaphosa's sudden, hand-wringing panic over the continued erosion of South Africa's industrial base is the absolute peak of political gaslighting. For the President to stand at a podium and declare manufacturing "fundamental to our economic sovereignty" while his own administration actively strangles the private sector is pure theater. The industrial base isn't eroding because of external bad luck. It is being systematically dismantled by the ANC's own ideological obsessions: BBBEE and cadre deployment. Ramaphosa laments a dying industrial base while forcing capital intensive, high risk manufacturing firms to navigate an oppressive maze of BBBEE compliance. Foreign and domestic investors are not looking for compliance lectures; they are looking for economic viability. When you prioritize skin color and political connections over global competitiveness, investors pack up and take their factories to Vietnam, India, or Mauritius. You cannot have a manufacturing sector without electricity, rail, and ports. Ramaphosa's sacred cow, cadre deployment, has stuffed the boards of Transnet, Eskom, and Prasa with incompetent party loyalists instead of technocrats. By turning state owned enterprises into patronage feeding troughs, his government has made it impossible for factories to reliably power their machinery or move their goods to port. It is laughably hypocritical to talk about economic sovereignty when your state's economic policy has rendered the country completely dependent on Chinese loans, IMF bailouts, and Western green-energy handouts. Local businesses are shutting down because the cost of doing business in South Africa, driven by rigid labor laws, state extortion, and broken infrastructure, is too high. The ANC has successfully colonized the economy with red tape, ensuring that only politically connected elites survive while real entrepreneurs go under. Ramaphosa has mastered the art of speaking like a concerned observer rather than the head of the executive. He laments the crisis as if he didn't spend the last decade chairing the committee that oversaw the deployment of the very cadres who broke the state. No amount of social compacting or high-level investment summits can undo the damage of a state policy framework designed to extract wealth rather than create it. Manufacturing requires cheap electricity, functional railways, and regulatory certainty. Ramaphosa's administration offers the exact opposite, erratic power, stalled trains, and aggressive racial engineering. If the President truly cares about South Africa's industrial base, he needs to stop diagnosing the disease and look at the ideological poison his own party keeps feeding the patient.
We cannot accept the continued erosion of South Africa’s industrial base. Manufacturing is not simply another sector of the economy. It is fundamental to our economic sovereignty. x.com/i/broadcasts/1vJpPNPbP…
