the problem with tech twitter is that it's truly a bubble. you could be working on your first project, see 100+ other founders talking about making >$10k MRR and feel like you're the only one in the world that isn't getting "rich" with AI. the reality is that if you're building with AI, you're instantly among <1% of the population and if you've even made a single dollar off of something you've built, that number drops significantly. keep in mind, most people are using AI as a search engine, doctor, therapist, etc - not to build a SAAS. don't get dissuaded, you're too early.
NEW: Just 2.2% of U.S. households currently pay for an AI subscription — PNC Bank.

This is 100% true. Went to an AI event recently and they did a 'demo' at the end and used gemini with a simple prompt that was one sentence long to build a floppy bird clone using a photo they took. They didn't even ask gemini to host it in its sandbox to play it. Just downloaded the HTML file and opened it in their browser

100%. definitely gotta touch some grass. approached a family business running since the 1950s, they're still doing quotes with paper. probably around 5M-10M$ revenue.

i’d suspect far more business owners are in this position than not. what kind of AI systems do you implement?

just dropped another post about how SAAS holds up to the restaurant industry. i think it’s a really interesting comparison. although not apples to apples, the restaurant industry is flooded, only about 10 or 11x bigger (revenue wise) than SAAS, and is potentially >100x less competitive.

Needed this reminder. Tech Twitter isn't reality keep building, you're further ahead than you think.

And this applies to any social media bubble, really. That's why we have to be truly mindful when scrolling through social media.

Yeah the actual market size of people who pay for AI products is tiny compared to the general consumer product market but that will change with time.

Thank you for this!! I struggle with anxiety from being in this social media bubble while just getting started building with AI. Do you have advice on how to push past the noise, avoid the hype, and find genuine ways to learn and grow toward making money with AI?

I believe it is like the rise of social media. It's free to post pictures and videos and reels on Instagram or youtube. But not everyone becomes a content creator and makes ad revenue. Most will just share thoughts or reels with each other and do something else.

Yes. But... More and more I'm thinking "success" is just going to look different in the future. When "anyone" can vibe code a solution, and it works well enough, success for businesses may look a lot smaller, distributed, and customized to ever smaller niches

In my experience, the real barrier to actually making money isnt the coding or technical side, that is now easy. The barrier is the idea, the market and compliance in which ever industry the SaaS exists in. That is the exhausting part.

Not to floor your argument or exaggerate tech twitter, but that 2.2% is about 3 million households, that number isn't bubble.
