Five years ago today, celebrating the Newcastle United takeover with a Black Velvet, following the case I worked on against the Premier League.
One of my longest and often most challenging sports law cases, but also one of the most enjoyable and memorable.

Nico Gonzalez on leaving #ManCity for Newcastle: "It was a huge opportunity for me. I was obviously at a top, top club, but I think Newcastle has been amazing the last years and has even more potential. So I think we're a top team and I'm enjoying it so much!
"At the end, I think the most important thing is not about you have to be in the best club, the most important thing is enjoying football and trying to become the best player you can..." [via @SkySportsPL]

❌ Simon: "The rules are wrong... they were concocted by the [traditional big clubs]!"
😤 Martin: "The rules were brought in for a reason!"
Simon Jordan and Martin Keown clash over #MCFC's potential punishment and the Premier League's owner funding rules! 🔥
Does Will Osula go straight in vs Coventry?
He started the season as first-choice striker and was cruelly robbed of the chance after just 45 minutes.
It will probably be Osula/Wissa/Willock/MFP competing for the No.9 and No.10 spots. A big call for Matthias Jaissle. #NUFC
🗣️ "Joey Barton told me nobody wanted me there, Newcastle fans didn’t appreciate me, and the local media didn’t help - it led to a toxic atmosphere"
🤷♂️ Alan Pardew still feels hard done by over Newcastle spell

I get this……..football was ahead of the off the field stuff
Now it seems more aligned, despite having an unbelievable 4 years under Howe which he was a victim of as he couldn’t take it to that next step #nufc
It has taken a while, but #NUFC finally have a structure built the right way round and, they hope, with everyone pulling in the same direction again. Free to read …

Mike Ashley turned #NUFC into an empty shell. Commercial income tanked and he used it as a free platform for his crappy businesses, treated fans and players like shit, invested nothing and got a total free pass from the PL and the media.
On this day in 2002: Newcastle United beat Birmingham City 2-0 at St Andrews in the PL. Solano and Shola with the goals. Watched this one at the Heaton Tennants.
