Thank you very much for the question: - I have done branding work and sprite work for a game design client (through a studio) as an independent contractor. - I believed in what he was doing and associated with it. - I was privy to when the logo design for the brand was being developed, down to typography and assets, even concepts. - I really wanted them to succeed. It would be great for the community and show what's possible. It wasn't just PR; I believed in the vision.

Yes, that step-down post should have included the difficulties around payment and how it was beyond his control (which led to him stepping down), and how complicit he was in keeping quiet. This is an incontrovertible fact; if I were an employee too, I would be vexed at the wording.

When I heard about the issue, the first thing I asked him to do was to pick up his phone, call everybody involved and explain in detail what was going on. He should have done this way earlier. A lot of things are negotiable, but never the employee's salary. Lessons have been learnt.

Do I empathise with him? Yes; does that mean he should be shielded from the consequences of leadership? No. Bearing that title means you are responsible for all (whether it was a board issue or not, the employees and public don't care). Some of the people who worked for him were paid more than they had EVER been paid; we know them, but the thing about owing is that you are as good as the last salary you paid. Terrible communication from his end (I repeat). People were actually working on design and development. Came online and saw some really vile tweets and snide remarks insinuating he was posturing all along, like all his marketing effort was reduced to showmanship? He made a mistake; hold him accountable for that, but don't mischaracterise him. Don't call him a thief. It wasn't all a show.

- People who worked in the company were literally paid in dollars. - Elvis wanted the best for his employees - People were literally reaching out to work for the company - Salary remuneration, data allowance, Chowdeck, etc. - We all believed in the dream of Mazerance One thing we will not do is call him a thief or a fraud or claim he USED / ABUSED people. Leadership mistake, yes; terrible communication, yes. Lessons have been learnt. Back to my break.

- We saw the game development - People we know and are friends with work there - People here who are rightfully aggrieved worked there, - So one thing to clear up is that something was ACTUALLY being built. - I called to ask for the stage of development, and he opened up that things were not going as planned; people were owed (4 months) - I asked him to remove my badge - I specifically asked him to call everybody owed and explain what was going on and not leave them in teh dark; this was his first mistake (and He did) - He explained some leadership issues (trust and finance) with the executives and board going on. Elvis is not a fraud; comparing him with Favour Ori is dishonest. He clearly made mistakes (by not communicating in time) People are right to be vexed.

One thing this IPO has proved is that, under the right incentives, product and marketing teams can operate with machine-level coordination and speed. This may well establish a new floor for what we expect from high-performing teams.

Being able to express the strategy and vision of a brand in a distinct way has always been an exciting challenge. And I’m still using many of those skills in my day-to-day work as a Design Systems Product Designer — from layout and typography to iconography and micro-interactions. I don’t think these skills are meant to be kept behind one or two case studies. I see them as part of my life’s work, whether it’s an exploration, something that never shipped, or an approved and shipped design. That’s why I went with a gallery-themed website this time. Rather than keeping my work behind a handful of polished case studies, I wanted somewhere I could treat my work as a body of work — explorations, shipped work, experiments, little details and everything in between.
