That means building a lot more stuff in the highest opportunity places in the country.
This thread is such a perfect encapsulation of the "lead paint caucus" mindset: "When I was young, I had to choose between living in a lead paint filled shithole, moving to a sprawlburg, or uprooting my life and relocating to another city. And so should you!"

Every member of S.F. government should draw a picture of what they want the city to look like. Write down what they want 1br rent to be. What amount of subsidized housing and how funded. Put em in a bag and pull them out anonymously. Then we can move forward honestly.
One thing thatโs unclear to me is if San Francisco actually wants more housing?
Have lived here almost twenty years and the whole city seems pretty lethargic about addressing what probably should be an emergency issue
Maybe San Francisco likes high prices and falling apart buildings? Or doesnโt dislike it enough to do anything about it
The whole thing is baffling, but itโs hard for me to visualize a future where a lot of housing gets built. Like in my mind, I just canโt even visualize a scenario

I think what is going on is that we no longer have any socially acceptable ways to deal with hooligans, so pretty much every behavioral risk group gets excluded in all circumstances, by any means.

I think (and Huang mentions this in the Klein interview), that the real โregulationโ they want is protection from whoopsie crimes committed by AI.
AI commits crimes and will commit crimes, but like this one, it will be benign but our legal system could definitely put them in prison for it.
