As usual, the replies are painful. People either believe: it can’t be saved and it’s a waste of money or: the solution is simple if only I could be dictator. It *can* be done. It’s going to take work and money. We are heading down the right road. We still have a long way to go.

Electricity is 23% of global final energy but delivers 37% of useful energy and powers 46% of the global economy. We don't need to replace all fossil fuels. We need to replace the services. A much smaller task. Great to see @IEA Electrification report finally measure this.

A pocket rescission is an illegal line item veto. It is the president saying that he and he alone will convert a bipartisan spending bill (that has been signed into law) into a partisan spending bill. He is canceling the lines of spending he doesn't like. This violates the core separation of powers embedded in our constitution in which it is the Congress, not the president, who decides what programs are designed and at what level they are funded. Republican colleagues said they would never let this happen. Well here it is. They should ask themselves: "How would I like to have a Democratic president canceling out the Republican flavored programs he or she doesn't like in a bipartisan spending bill that has been signed into law?" I hope we can all acknowledge that the "I don't care about a leader's character as long as he's good on policy" experiment has been an abysmal failure. Character must count. We've seen the consequences when it doesn't.

As of today, Great Salt Lake is only 30% full, compared to the lake volume at its natural elevation of 4,207 feet. More than half of the lakebed (56.9%, or 1124.1 square miles) is now exposed. Great Salt Lake is once again approaching its historic low, reached in November 2022. The gains from a year of strong snowpack are long gone, and the situation is more urgent than ever. We cannot rely on a good snow year to reverse the lake’s long-term decline. Great Salt lake will only recover if we make it a political and public priority. Utah’s all-of-the-above energy policy is focused on keeping costs low, maintaining reliability, and meeting growing electricity demand. Permitting reform is one of the best things we can do for our country, and the package negotiated in the Senate is objectively good for our country. We should take it up and pass it this work period, instead of waiting and potentially missing our window.
