This is a really good explanation of how strong ideas about identity are.
Hypnosis works.
Why does hypnosis work?
Buckle up —
Did you know?
The #1 reason people seek a hypnotist's help is to QUIT a bad habit.
Quit smoking, quit overeating, quit falling into destructive urges, etc. You get it.
So, why does hypnosis work then after 2-3 sessions for so many, when these habits have become default for DECADES, in many cases?
Another question: What is the difference between a smoker and a non-smoker?
Trick question. The question is the answer.
***The difference between a smoker and a non-smoker is that one is a smoker and the other is a non-smoker.***
Now you get it; it's identity. It's the self-concept. It's behavior becoming who you are.
"I smoke, therefore, I am (a smoker)."
This is who you believe yourself to be now. So trying to change the habit by grit is getting it backwards. It can be done, but it's hard. Change identity (who you believe yourself to be), change behavior.
Become a non-smoker, and you will stop the urge, the pattern, the habit of smoking.
How? Hypnosis. That's how.
Because a skilled hypnotist puts you in a pleasant trance, adjusts your identity — rooted in your subconscious — and changes "I am a smoker" to "I am a non-smoker." They do this by running a simulation of you BECOMING a non-smoker through what are called "suggestions," once you are deeply chilled TF out. These can be directly about the issue, or they can be a Christ-like parable or multisensory, metaphor-embedded story that your subconscious "gets" is about the smoking habit.
Either way, the new identity is implanted and confirmed; now you become a non-smoker.
Then out of trance, you feel no urge to smoke. No reason nor excuse to. "What do I need death sticks for? I am a non-smoker." No willpower required because it's who you are now. Almost instantly, likely forever.
Now — you understand the life-changing magic of hypnosis, in the right hands.
But in the wrong hands?
Half the internet supported Lindsay Clancy.
"Wait — it's all mass hypnosis??"
"Always has been."
