#TRADING #EDUCATION: FUNDAMENTALS, TECHNICALS and INSIDER TRADING?
#Oil is heavily driven by the war in the middle east and the Hormuz situation. BUT as I have posted recently, the technical levels are still being respected with amazing accuracy.
And I have also had discussions with many people recently who tell me that the technical are a waste of time here, my shorts will get wrecked and so far my trades are doing ok.
My tile mentions 3 things, fundamentals, technicals and insider trading and in truth ALL 3 are happening simultaneously in markets. I will try to deal with them 1 by 1:
INSIDER TRADING:
- Unfortunately this is something that has always happened and always will. It has almost certainly increased in recent years and it is absolutely disgusting. But I can't change it and I waste ZERO energy on it because its beyond my control.
FUNDAMENTALS:
- This undoubtedly acts as a catalyst in markets and in some markets is more prescient than others. In oil right now, it is massive. I regularly say that I ignore the fundamentals but that is only half true. In actual fact I do follow the news, but I trade based on the chart with a small macro overview for a medium term bias. BUT THE BIG FACTOR that I repeat regularly is that fundamentals are PRICED INTO the chart. Only if you are one of the inside traders will you consistently get ahead of the fundamentals.
TECHNICALS:
- This is the BIG poiny. These are not magic lines that some people think. They are levels that institutions (who are often the insider traders) put BIG MONEY and volume on. So if previously a lot of money has defended an area, then even whem a fundamental catalyst occurs, that BIG MONEY will often step in again. And that is why price stops and often reverses at these levels. NO MAGIC. NO LUCK. Just VOLUME TRADING.

Couldn't agree more. Fundamentals drive the macro, but technicals are the window into how that macro picture will behave. I've been watching this price point as a potential buy opp. Oct 1st or 2nd.
