For the last 5 months, I’ve been working on Hazel, and I’m super excited to finally share a first open beta version: hazel.sh, try it out now! Fully open source as always of course github.com/HazelChat/hazel I started building Hazel because I’ve been super unhappy with work chat apps for quite some time. Slack feels lacking in a lot of areas, customization support feels limited, Discord is amazing but sadly feels way too unprofessional, and I don’t even want to talk about Teams… I knew it would be a fool’s task to try to build something to replace these tools, but I wanted to try anyway and quickly got obsessed. I kept grinding on it more and more, slowly chipping away at one thing after another, and I can finally say I’m happy enough to use Hazel over any of the other solutions for my day‑to‑day communication, it's far from perfect but in a state I would love to get some feedback to make this truly the best communication platform. I built Hazel from the ground up with @EffectTS_ , @ElectricSQL , and @tanstack db to not only make it really, really fun to develop, but also great to use and maintain. For now, some core features include: - Public / Private / DM channels - Threads & replies - Reactions & file uploads -A media explorer - A smart notification system …and much, much more. Hazel is far from done, but I hope I can inspire some of you to join me on this journey to do the impossible and build the Slack of the modern era.

Update to Effect V4 if you haven't yet!! Did a big sweep over the weekend finally migrating our @superwall monorepo to @EffectTS_ V4. 400k LOC PR later our services are now ~30% faster and use quite a lot less memory.

New 3d Service Map view is live in Maple, a bit gimmicky but love it too much not to make permanent

Spent most of the day building a 3D Factory like view for @Mapledotdev, really tempted to add it as an alternative view

Reworked the layouting algorithm for the Maple Service Map, it's ALOT better now for bigger service graphs

Dogfooding Maple like crazy with Maple itself having a 0 error bug policy and it has been working out great with having less than 10 recorded errors out of almost 400 million requests in the last week. But this would have never been possible without @EffectTS_ , I'm still so grateful that I went all in on effect 2 years ago can't imagine shipping software without Effect nowadays. The structure it gives gets more and more important the more work we delegate to agents, especially here with the scope of Maple being quite big with a very small team. If you haven't please give Effect a try you won't regret it.

Looking into a drop in onboarding conversion? With Maple your agent has all the context to audit if it might be a slow api endpoint, confusing onboarding flow, as well as any errors that might happen anywhere in your stack A specific user has some troubles setting something up? Maple gives you all the tools for this as well I put a lot of time and effort making sure the tools I expose are both easy for agents to use and easy to extend and since the last two months your agent cannow, - debug edge latency, cache hit rate etc. via cloudflare integration, - debug user sessions via session replays, - investigate slow responses via traces/metrics and k8 collectors or docker collector to also have VM metrics in context - build and observe user funnels via product events - connect any services that supports promtheus - ask question about user retention and acquire sources via utm tag etc/ and much more. and all of this in one tool that agent understand well and is easy to extend.

@Superwall: our policy is we urge you to have a side project -- not "allowed" -- semi required. them: builds a whole startup to optimize latency. if you aren't using maple.dev ur ngmi this has been a very cool experiment and one I would urge other companies to make. partly started because i myself have massive builder ADD and launch a new product ~ every 2 months since i was 15 partly because the best people are going to work on their own shit anyway what surprised me the most is 1. just how much better hires with sideprojects are 2. how motivated they are to work on superwall because they know how good they have it 3. how teammates who make MORE from sideprojects dont quit we're hiring a support engineer rn. every engineer starts in support for 6mo. if you want to join the fam, email hiring@superwall.com with a bit about yourself. global remote.
