People wonder why I kept giving chances. They see me staying. They see me forgiving. They see me going back and probably wonder how I could keep choosing someone who kept hurting me. But they don’t understand what it feels like to truly love someone and still believe there’s a version of the relationship worth saving. When you love someone deeply, you don’t immediately give up when things become painful. You remember who they were when things were good. You remember the moments that made you fall in love. You remember the promises, the laughter, the late-night conversations and every reason you once believed this person could be your person. So you keep hoping. You hope they’ll finally understand what they’re doing. You hope they’ll realise what they have before it’s too late. You hope that if you love them patiently enough, communicate clearly enough, forgive enough, maybe they’ll eventually meet you where you’ve been standing all along. And every time you give another chance, a part of you is quietly praying that this will finally be the one that makes everything worth it. What people don’t see is how heartbreaking it is to keep choosing someone while slowly realising they aren’t choosing you in the same way. They don’t see the nights you cried and still answered their call. The times you were disappointed and convinced yourself not to expect so much. The moments you knew you deserved better but loved them enough to stay a little longer. People see the chances you gave. They don’t see how many times your heart broke before you finally stopped giving them.
