Watch @mbirdini's new film here!
I made an animated horror short! It's called Monitor. I did everything myself (except the awesome music and sound). No AI. Hope you enjoy!

Really excellent “camera” movement, from the dolley zoom to the erratic handheld when running, just very well animated.

Yep! I fell in love with grease pencil on this project. Sets and props are 3D, characters are 2D! Here’s a short workflow vid I made a bit ago

I spent a year and a half making this. Taught myself Blender to do it. At no point did I consider using gen AI to speed up my workflow. Because the end product is not the point. Art is about the process. I learned a lot. Time well spent

✅ Made entirely by a human ✅ A Feature Animator/Director no less ✅ In Blender ✅ Oscar-qualified Congrats @mbirdini !!
1/2 - Today's Oscar-qualified short is ‘Monitor,’ Michael Berardini’s indie animated horror film inspired by his anxieties as a father of two. Made largely on his own, the short opened this year’s Annecy Festival and is now online in full. cartoonbrew.com/awards/monit…

TOMORROW! What started as just a little story exercise that turned into a short that got into some festivals and then opened the biggest animation fest in the world and is now Oscar qualified?! Never would have guessed it would go this far… I hope you’ll check it out!

ONE WEEK! So excited to finally share this with everyone after a year of festivals and travel and meeting cool new people. Shoutout to all the wonderful fests that selected us, hosted us and even awarded us. It's been quite the journey for Monitor. Online Thursday Oct 15!
